  • Patent number: 4055600
Abstract: Aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons (especially cyclyhexane) are oxidized in the liquid phase with an oxygen-containing gas at low conversion in a reactor comprising two contacting compartments allowing heat transfer from one to the other, the first operating at a higher pressure than the second into which the reaction mixture from the first is released so effecting cooling, partial evaporation of the excess hydrocarbon and concentration of the oxidation product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1975
Date of Patent: October 25, 1977
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries Limited
Inventors: Philip Edward Langley, Robert Tulip
  • Patent number: 3997601
Abstract: In the continuous manufacture of adipic acid by nitric acid oxidation of an organic feedstock oxidisable thereto in which cooling is effected by recycling the reaction mixture through a cooling circuit external to the reactor, improved temperature control is achieved by feeding the feedstock to the cooling circuit upstream of at least one cooler.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 5, 1974
Date of Patent: December 14, 1976
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries Limited
    Inventor: Philip Edward Langley
