    Abstract: An air cleaner includes a slide retention structure which engages a sliding resonator volume. The volume slides along the slide retention structure into an assembled position. Once assembled, a tuning tube engages an aperture in the volume, the volume and the resonator assembly reducing noise produced by the engine. A flexible seal is positioned around the aperture to acoustically seal the resonator volume to the tuning tube. An air cleaner cover is secured to the box by a lock plate. To lock the cover to the box, the lock plate is slid so that a plurality of wedges on the plate are forced under hooks on the box, securing the cover to the box. A side opening located proximate to the wedges allow the lock plate to slide so that the hooks do not hinder the movement of the lock plate.

    Abstract: A resonator provided for air system that includes a body defining a passageway. A wall is disposed within the chamber and the wall and the chamber are movable relative to one another to define a length and a volume of the cavity. The length and the volume of the cavity define a noise attenuating frequency. By moving the wall and chamber relative to one another the noise attenuating frequency may be changed as the frequency changes during the engine operation. The drive mechanism moves the wall in the chamber relative to one another to change the noise attenuating frequency. The chamber may be a branched type resonator or an inline type resonator. Accordingly, the above described invention provides a resonator that may be adjusted during engine operation to attenuate noise over a variety frequencies.

    Abstract: The subject invention is a linkage assembly for an electronically controlled throttle (ETC) that provides for the precise setting of a limp home engine speed for a vehicle. Essentially a controlled amount of movement is attained between a closed position and a limp home throttle position. A throttle valve is attached to a first shaft and rotates to regulate air intake. The first shaft is attached to a sector gear. The sector gear is driven by the ETC. A stop bracket limits the amount that the sector gear can close the throttle valve. The stop bracket defines an opening, and a cam is disposed within the opening. A spring biases the stop bracket against the cam. Normally, the ETC can overcome the spring and the stop bracket is forced against the cam such that stop bracket contacts the cam to define a closed throttle position. Of course, when operational the ETC can drive the valve to open position as demanded by the vehicle.

    Abstract: There is provided an autonomous off-board defensive aids system (100) for use with a host craft (102), for example, with combat aircraft or submarines. More particularly, the host craft (102) deploys a plurality of controllable off-board units (104, 106) to counter an offensive threat or to engage in autonomous offensive actions. The controllable off-board units (104, 106) implement active stealth facilities: each off-board unit (104, 106) having a receiver unit for detecting impinging detection pulses, for example radar or sonar pulses, and a transmitter unit for generating an artificial detection pulse profile, for example “spoofing” or masking the presence of the host craft. The controllable off-board units are of two types: tethered (104) and free moving (106). The off-board units (104, 106) can have conventional propulsion apparatus, for instance, propellers, rockets or jets. Off-board units (104, 106) each have control apparatus which allows the off-board units (104, 106) to co-operate.

    Abstract: Magnetoresistive devices are disclosed which include a changeable magnetic region within which at least two magnetic states can be imposed. Upon magnetoresistive electrical interaction with the device, the relative orientation of the magnetic states of the changeable magnetic region, and a proximate reference magnetic region, can be sensed thereby providing a binary data storage capability. The present invention limits the electrical interaction to only a preferred portion of the changeable magnetic region, e.g., the portion within which the two magnetic states can be dependably predicted to be substantially uniform, and opposite of one another. Structures for limiting the electrical interaction to this preferred portion of the changeable magnetic region are disclosed, and include smaller interaction regions, and alternating areas of insulation and conductive, interaction regions, disposed proximate the changeable magnetic region.

    Abstract: An active noise attenuation system for an air induction assembly is operably connected to an engine that generates a low frequency noise having a noise profile defining a peak noise. The system has an air inlet duct housing with an inlet and an outlet connected to the engine. A resonator is supported by the housing and is positioned between a speaker assembly and the engine to attenuate the peak noise resulting in an attenuated low frequency engine noise. A microphone senses the attenuated low frequency engine noise and generates an attenuated low frequency engine noise signal. A controller receives and phase shifts the signal and sends the signal to the speaker to generate a sound field to cancel or reduce the attenuated low frequency engine noise signal.

A tapered insertion end of the internal tube is inserted into the rubber hose and slides along an angled surface of the rubber hose. The tapered insertion end presses the rubber hose against a hose neck of the resonator to retain and seal the rubber hose. A retention end of the internal tube secures the tube to the resonator. The retention end includes a recessed portion positioned between a pair of flanges. The tube neck of the resonator engages the recessed portion, the flanges securing the internal tube in place.

    Abstract: A whirlpool jet assembly has both an articulatable nozzle and a rotary face. The nozzle can be directed over a range of angles to provide a narrow stream of water and air to hit a selected spot. The rotary face is easily installed to fluidly and mechanically engage the end of the nozzle. When so installed, the rotary face sends the stream through at least two canted apertures which thereby generate torque to rotate a rotor in the face. The resultant circularly shaped stream impinges on a larger area. The user can readily install or remove the rotary face to select either configuration.
