  • Patent number: 5472052
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of abandoning a well which has ceased to provide economic use. The method includes pressurizing the well fluids through the production tubing including optionally additional adjacent annular channels to force them back into the reservoir by means of a gaseous medium such as nitrogen. Then sealing the production tubing and optional annular channels with a suitable seal. Draining the remaining channels by perforation into the void in the production tubing and optional channels formed by the gaseous medium. Followed by a final sealing of the whole well.

  • Patent number: 5441119
Abstract: The invention relates to a directional drilling tool for use in controlled directional drilling. The drilling tool comprises two parts which are moveable relative to each other either in the horizontal or vertical planes. Cam surfaces are provided between the two parts for adjustments to the drilling direction in the vertical plane. A slot and groove mechanism is provided between the two as an example of adjustments in the horizontal plane. In each case hydraulic pressure is the preferred means of controlling the adjustments said controlling means being independent of the other well operations.

  • Patent number: 5435351
Abstract: A conduit lies on the inside wall of the tubing. A plurality of anchors are located along the length of the conduit, the anchors being activatable between an "active" state when the anchors engage the inside wall and a "neutral" state when the anchors are disengaged from the inside wall.

  • Patent number: 5340626
Abstract: An inflatable well packer includes several annular layers of material, consisting of a series of oriented fibers encapsulated in a resin, the fibers being oriented in directions relative to the direction of the circumference of the annular layers such that pressure from the bore through the annular layers causes changes to the orientations of the fibers, thus causing inflation of the well packer, the fibers within each layer being oriented along the length of the layer, so that a portion of them are oriented at the lock up angle.

  • Patent number: 5327962
Abstract: An inflatable well packer includes several annular layers of material, consisting of a series of oriented fibers encapsulated in an elastomeric resin, the inner and outer circumferential surfaces of the well packer each carry a protective layer of material effective to protect the elastomeric resin, each protective layer 9, 11 is deposited on the well packer in a folded configuration, such that unfolding of the layers enables inflation of the well packer.
