  • Patent number: 9725883
Abstract: A control system for a machine having a power source configured to provide power, a number of implements including a work implement, configured to provide operations, and a number of power transmitting paths configurable to selectively make power available to the implements to perform operations. The control system may include a control arrangement configured to regulate the power source to provide a first level of available power, to configure a first power transmitting path to make a percentage A1 of said first level of power available to provide a first operation, and to configure a second power transmitting path to make a percentage A2 of said first level of power available to provide a second operation, at least the second operation being a work operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 16, 2009
Date of Patent: August 8, 2017
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.
Inventors: Benjamin D. Drake, Philip F. Lange
  • Patent number: 7845169
Abstract: A method of controlling a machine having a hydraulically actuated linkage includes lowering a load suspended by the leakage at least in part by leaking hydraulic fluid from a portion of a hydraulic actuation system, and generating a drift compensation control signal responsive to leaking hydraulic fluid. A machine includes an electronic controller in control communication with a valve, the electronic controller being configured to compensate for leakage induced drift of at least one hydraulic actuator of a machine hydraulic system by selectively commanding adjusting of the valve if drift criteria for the hydraulic system are satisfied.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 17, 2006
Date of Patent: December 7, 2010
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc
Inventors: Chad T. Brickner, Philip F. Lange, Dominik Skwarnicki

  • Patent number: 6382075
Abstract: A snubbing arrangement functions to control the rate of deceleration of a piston and rod assembly within a fluid cylinder as the piston and rod assembly nears the bottom of the piston cavity. A flow blocking mechanism is attached to the piston and rod assembly and acts to block flow from the piston cavity through a first head end port. A pressure differential valve mechanism is disposed between a second head end port and the rod end port and operative to control the pressure in the head end cavity relative to the pressure in the rod end cavity.

  • Patent number: 6374606
Abstract: A material eject system includes an ejector mounted to a bed of a vehicle which is movable between a rear end and a forward end of the bed for ejecting material from the bed. The ejector is powered by a cylinder having different fluid volumes depending on the direction of motion of the cylinder. Two pumps having flow rates matching the different fluid volumes of the cylinder are used to power the cylinder in the different directions.
