  • Patent number: 6292711
Abstract: A document dispensing system comprising a companion document data transfer device and a document dispenser having a document variables data input terminal, a document printer, a digital data input port coupled to the companion document data transfer device, a companion document data memory, an operational program memory, and a digital controller programmed to store new companion document data in the companion document data memory and to control the document printer in accordance with the document variables data, the new companion document data, and the operational program data. Replacement companion document data is downloaded from the data transfer device to the companion document data memory via the digital data input port.

  • Patent number: 5971632
Abstract: A document printer is provided comprising a printer housing, a user interface and an internal printer controller positioned within the printer housing. The internal printer controller is programmed to designate a document format according to a format command entered at the user interface. A data stream input port is in communication with the internal printer controller and is operative to receive a data stream. A document construction module is in communication with the internal printer controller. The document construction module enables the internal printer controller to (i) extract predetermined data fields from the data stream according to the designated document format and (ii) convert the extracted data fields to document data. A document data printing mechanism is responsive to the internal printer controller and is operative to print the document data in the designated document format.

  • Patent number: 5867394
Abstract: A document dispensing system comprising an operational program data transfer device and a document dispenser having a document variables data input terminal, a document printer, a digital data input port coupled to the operational program data transfer device, an operational program storage device, a reprogram storage device, and a digital controller programmed to store new operational program data in the operational program storage device and to control the document printer in accordance with the document variables data and the new operational program data. A replacement document dispenser operational program is downloaded from the data transfer device to the operational program data storage device via the digital data input port.

  • Patent number: 5847962
Abstract: A document dispensing system wherein any or all security levels in a document dispensing system are accessible upon issuance of a security controller override command so as to permit operation of the dispenser in a particular security mode without regard to whether a corresponding security passcode has been entered on the dispenser keyboard or otherwise.

  • Patent number: 5774365
Abstract: A document dispenser incorporating multiple security levels of operation wherein dispenser operation in the operator mode is permitted when a valid operator passcode is entered at a passcode entry device, and wherein operation in the executive mode is permitted when the presence of a valid transportable security key is detected by a security key receiver.

  • Patent number: 4712935
Abstract: A guard is used to close the gap between the print ribbon and a check supported by the platen in a check writing machine. The guard inhibits paper or metal shims from entering the gap to receive the check amount and payee data thereby protecting the printer from issuing blank checks which could later be filled out to create a counterfeit document.
