Patent number: 11814903Abstract: A downhole assembly includes a bit and a cutting tool uphole of the bit. The cutting tool has one or more expandable cutter arms. The one or more expandable cutter arms include at least one stabilizer portion having a radial position that is about the same as a gauge of the bit when the one or more expandable cutter arms are in an expanded position. A spline on the cutter arms are used by a cutting tool to move the cutter arms.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2021Date of Patent: November 14, 2023Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventor: Philip G. Patent number: 11225838Abstract: A downhole cutting apparatus includes a cutter block. The cutter block includes a formation facing surface with cutting elements coupled thereto. The cutting elements are arranged such that at least one cutting element has a different exposure relative to the formation facing surface than at least one other cutting element. In some embodiments, a row of cutting elements may have a gradually changing exposure. The exposure may change such that cutting elements nearer the gauge of the cutter block have less exposure than cutting elements farther from the gauge of the cutter block. In additional embodiments, an underreamer may include multiple cutter blocks. The cutter blocks may each have a different configuration in a backreaming portion, gauge portion, underreaming portion, any part thereof, or in a combination of the foregoing.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2017Date of Patent: January 18, 2022Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventor: Philip G. Patent number: 11002080Abstract: A cutter block includes a formation facing surface having a staged cutting profile and one or more stabilizer pads may be located between reaming portions. A shorter stabilizer pad or no stabilizer pad may be at the gauge of the cutter block. A spline on the cutter block and used by a downhole cutting apparatus to move the cutter block may intersect the formation facing surface. The spline may form an extension that increases a width of the formation facing surface. The extension may be located at a stabilizer pad to expand the stabilizer pad, such that the extension rotationally leads or trails cutting structure of the cutter block. When the cutter block is expanded, a stabilizer pad may be at a pilot diameter of a wellbore, while some cutting elements may be radially outside, and others radially within, the pilot diameter of the wellbore.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2017Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventor: Philip G. Patent number: 10900306Abstract: A landing tool includes a body with an inner surface. A receiving groove is located on the inner surface and includes a first groove portion and a second groove portion separated by a tab. At least a portion of the tab is recessed from the inner surface of the landing tool. At least a portion of the second groove portion may further be recessed from one or both of the inner surface of the landing tool or an inner surface of the tab.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2017Date of Patent: January 26, 2021Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Philip G. Trunk, Tommy G. Ray, Jeremy O'Neal, Dwayne P. Terracina

Patent number: 10815733Abstract: A downhole cutting apparatus includes a cutter block. The cutter block includes a formation facing surface with cutting elements coupled thereto. The cutting elements are arranged in rows that may extend at an angle across a width of the formation facing surface. Mud flutes may optionally be located between rows of cutting elements. A gauge portion of the formation facing surface may be adjacent a leading edge having reinforcement members coupled thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2016Date of Patent: October 27, 2020Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventor: Philip G.
