Patent number: 8751424Abstract: In one embodiment a method to create a system to manage documents with sensitive or classified content comprises extracting a list of text features enabling interaction with the user developing the system to create a rule-based classifier based on the list of text features and one or more synonymous features, applying the rule-based classifier to one or more selected documents to tag a set of documents with the sensitive or classified information they contain, training a statistical text classifier using the tagged documents generated as a training set, applying the trained statistical text classifier to the training set, and reapplying the refined rule-based classifier to the one or more documents to tag a set of documents with the sensitive or classified information they contain. Other embodiments may be described.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2011Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Richard H. Wojcik, Ping Xue, Stephen R. Publication number: 20110288819Abstract: A method of identifying characteristics of a target, marking object comprising the steps of: providing a subject, marked article having a surface having markings caused by a marking surface of the target, marking object; obtaining a 3D dataset corresponding to a 3D virtual model of the surface of the subject, marked article by means of a sensor; extracting from dataset by means of a surface segmentation analysis data indicative of a class of the target, marking object and storing said data in the database; extracting from the dataset by means of a surface wavelet filtering operation data corresponding to one or more individual characteristics of the target, marking object and storing said data in the database.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2009Publication date: November 24, 2011Applicant: University of HuddersfieldInventors: Philip Harrison, Liam Blunt

Publication number: 20100145972Abstract: A method for finding similar search terms (word matching) is provided. The method receives a query of at least a first word and automatically applies the first word to a vocabulary amplifier. The vocabulary amplifier retrieves an associated word for the first word and accesses one or more database sources to retrieve an associated word. Each associated word is presented to an output interface. The amplifier then receives information from an input interface for the associated word and classifies the associated word based upon the received characterizing information.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2008Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventors: Oscar Kipersztok, David Vickrey, Philip Harrison, Daphne Koller

Patent number: 7644053Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for combining causal domain models with reasoning and text processing for knowledge driven decision support are provided. A knowledge driven decision support system is capable of creating a domain model, extracting and processing quantities of text according to the domain model, and generating understanding of the content and implications of information sensitive to analysts. An interface may be used to receive input to model complex relationships of a domain, establish implications of interest or request a query, and update the causal model. A processing element can capture and process text into text profiles by incorporating the domain model and process the text profiles in accordance with the domain model by applying formal reasoning to the information to derive trends, predict events, or arrive at other query results. An output element can provide a user the resulting information related to the domain model.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2005Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Oscar Kipersztok, Philip Harrison

Patent number: 5878280Abstract: A video server includes a plurality of input/output devices coupled to a plurality of memory arrays via a commutator. Within each memory array, a buffer is operative to collect data for transfer to and/or from an array controller. Each memory array includes an error correction system providing parity-based RAID type error correction. A plurality of disk controllers each having a FIFO buffer and respective pluralities of disk memories are commonly coupled to a communication bus which in turn is coupled to the error correction system by a FIFO buffer. A segment buffer having a plurality of low cost memory devices which are configured to provide a plurality of ring buffers is coupled to the data bus. An access logic circuit controls the data flow through the FIFO buffer and a central processing unit is operative to provide address sequence upon the communication bus for controlling data transfer to and from the segment buffer.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1996Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: Philips Electronics North America Corp.Inventor: Philip Harrison Lucht

Patent number: 5671386Abstract: A system having N access channels, M individual disk storage arrays, a commutator for connecting each of the access channels to each of the storage arrays; and a control unit for causing the commutator to connect each of the access channels to each of the storage arrays. The disk storage arrays are capable of storing contiguous segments of a data block. In the case of movies, each segment includes, for example, a few seconds of each relevant movie. The commutator connects the access channels to the disk storage arrays in a manner whereby each of the access channels has access to all of the data. The system is such that each access channel can receive data at the maximum system bandwidth. In addition, data can be written into the storage arrays by one access channel, while another of the access channels is receiving data, both at the maximum system bandwidth.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1995Date of Patent: September 23, 1997Assignee: Philips Electronics North America CorporationInventors: David Kim Blair, Scott Karl Curtis, Philip Harrison Lucht
