Patent number: 7801878Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of matching a data record with a reference record. The method includes receiving a data record; searching stored reference records for a reference record that is an exact match for the received data record; and, if an exact matching reference record is not found, calculating a distance between the received data record and at least one stored reference record, and determining the at least one stored reference record to be an approximate match, if the calculated distance is less than a pre-determined threshold. The inventive method and system can be used for, but not limited to, invoice processing in an Accounts Payable system, record conciliation in a securities trading system, finding preferred bonds in a bond trading system. Approximate matching records are ranked, and the closest match, or highest ranking match, may be automatically processed, if within a predetermined threshold.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2003Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: Powerloom CorporationInventors: Philip J. Hayes, Eugene Fink, Ganesh Mani

Patent number: 6658627Abstract: The present invention is a system of integrated, computer-based processes for monolingual information development and multilingual translation. An interactive text editor enforces lexical and grammatical constraints on a natural language subset used by the authors to create their text, which they help disambiguate to ensure translatability. The resulting translatable source language text undergoes machine translation into any one of a set of target languages, without the translated text requiring any postediting.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1999Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Caterpillar IncInventors: Sharlene L. Gallup, Peggy M. Andersen, Philip J. Hayes, Eric H. Riebling, Teruko Mitamura, Eric H. Nyberg, III

Publication number: 20020138399Abstract: The method and system of the present invention provide an electronic platform that enables any participant in a trading network to trade with any other participant in the trading network according to its own individual trading rules. The trading rules are individual and private, and each participant may have a plurality of rules that govern trading. The trading rules may include Buy-side trading rules that govern partner selection and offer to sell evaluation, and Sell-side trading rules that govern how a participant responds to a request. The trading rules may be applied by the system in a manner that automates the purchasing process, or may be used to rank a participant's choices according to the participant's preferences. The trading network is preferably integrated the participants' internal systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2001Publication date: September 26, 2002Inventors: Philip J. Hayes, Aidan J. McKenna, Bruce M. McLaren

Patent number: 5995920Abstract: A computer-based method and system for monolingual document development, which includes the steps of entering into a text editor input text in a source language, checking the input text against vocabulary source language constraints, and providing interactive feedback relating to the input text if non-constrained source language is present. The method and system also includes the steps of checking for syntactic grammatical errors and semantic ambiguities in the source text, and providing interactive feedback to remove syntactic grammatical errors and semantic ambiguities in the source text.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1996Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Jaime G.
