  • Patent number: 6563462
Abstract: An imaging system (10) that includes a passive millimeter-wave camera (14)employing a focal plane array (60) of millimeter-wave integrated circuitry receivers (32). The camera (14) images a scene (58) that may include one or more beacons (12). The beacons (12) transmit millimeter-wave radiation signals (16) that are modulated by a modulator (24) so that the beacons (12) can be distinguished, and possibly provide communications in addition to beacon location. The receivers (32) in the camera (14) employ a demodulator (40) to demodulate the detected millimeter-wave signals from the scene (58). Therefore, not only does the camera (14) image the beacons (12) in the scene (58), but also can separate and decipher communications signals from the beacons (12).

  • Patent number: 5940011
Abstract: A rear and side object detection system for a vehicle based on monolithic millimeter wave integrated circuit technology. A multiple antenna configuration is employed that defines six sensing regions to the right, left and the rear of the vehicle. A first sensing region is defined at the right side of the vehicle, a second sensing region is defined at the right side and rear of the vehicle and overlaps the first sensing region, a third sensing region and a fourth sensing region extend from the rear on both sides of the vehicle in the adjacent lanes, a fifth sensing region is defined at the left side of the vehicle and a sixth sensing region is defined at the left side and rear of the vehicle and overlaps the second and fifth sensing regions. A right side warning signal is issued if an object is detected in a right side detection zone defined by the first sensing region or a portion of the second sensing region that does not overlap the third or sixth sensing regions.

  • Patent number: 5508706
Abstract: A radar system includes a radar transceiver for generating transmit signals and for receiving signals reflected by targets. The radar system includes a mixer for combining the transmit signals and the reflected signals into a mixer signal. A radar signal processor includes a sampling device, connected to the mixer, for sampling the mixer signal and for generating a sampled mixer signal. A spectrum estimation device, connected to the sampling device, generates a range profile signal including a plurality of range bins each containing a magnitude of a spectral component. A threshold device, connected to the spectrum estimation device, generates a target space array from the range profile signal. A target decision device, connected to the threshold device, generates estimated range and speed signals for a closest target from the target space array.
