  • Publication number: 20250047923
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for performing adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming. A user device may request a segment of a first version of a plurality of versions of a content asset from a content provider, and may receive the segment. An estimated time to receive a second segment of a second version of the content may be determined based on metrics associated with receipt of the segment of the first version and in a manner that takes into account latency with the network, such that a determination whether to switch to a higher or lower bitrate version of a content asset during ABR streaming may be more accurately made.

  • Publication number: 20240251140
Abstract: Delay in initial output of a requested content asset by a computing device may be reduced by sending a first portion of the content asset to the computing device, such as video player, along with a requested information file, such as a manifest file, associated with the content asset. The first portion of the content asset and the manifest file may be processed in parallel by the video player device. The video player device may request a second portion of the content asset according to the manifest file, while the video player device is continuing to process, output and present the first portion of the content asset. The size of the first portion of the content asset may be sized to provide continuous output of the first portion and subsequent portions of the content asset received.

  • Patent number: 11488508
Abstract: Different functional views for a mobile device are provided depending on orientation of the device. The mobile device includes an enclosure and a display disposed within the enclosure, wherein the display presents a functional view to a user when the device is positioned in a first orientation and a second functional view when the display is rotated to a second orientation.

  • Publication number: 20220272397
Abstract: A user device may be configured to make a better choice between switching to a different content bit rate or switching to a different content server when responding to interruptions during content output, based on an awareness of a cause of the interruptions. Based on conditions associated with content delivery or information concerning playback quality at one or more user devices, an alternative bit rate ladder for encoding content may be determined. Such dynamic generation of an alternative bit rate ladder may enable fine tuning of load reductions in the content delivery network and optimized delivery of the encoded content to the user devices.

  • Patent number: 10341713
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for providing alternative content to a user while the user performs a media control request (e.g. fast forward request, fast rewind request) on media content (e.g., television episode, movie, advertisement, and the like) that is being viewed by the user. The content can be caused to be displayed based on a time remaining until the anticipated end of the media control request and/or a requested viewing speed of the media control request (e.g., 2×, 4×, etc. . . . ).

  • Patent number: 10057532
Abstract: Some aspects of the disclosure relate to a system and methods for monitoring an audio signal that may comprise one or more device audio components, e.g., from a device presenting content and an ambient audio component. The system can determine the ambient audio component of the audio signal, and can determine whether the ambient audio component has satisfied an ambient audio component threshold. If the ambient audio component threshold has been satisfied, the system can cause the device to display a visual representation of the device audio component, such as presenting text corresponding to speech of the audio component.
