  • Patent number: 9196935
Abstract: A micro-channel cooling fin for a battery module and battery is provided. The cooling fin includes a metal plate assembly that defines a plurality of cooling channels therein. The metal plate assembly includes an inlet section for introducing a coolant into the plurality of cooling channels and an outlet section from which the coolant exits the plurality of cooling channels. Each channel has an output temperature and an input temperature such that the output temperature minus the input temperature for each cooling channel is within a predetermined amount.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 12, 2013
Date of Patent: November 24, 2015
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, LLC
Inventors: Taeyoung Han, Kuo-Huey Chen, Bahram Khalighi, Rachit Garg, Philip Klaus

Date of Patent: February 25, 2014
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
Inventors: Valentin Schultheis, Philip Klaus, Dieter Hasenauer, Ulrich Eberle, Andre Mack-Gardner
  • Patent number: 8492019
Abstract: A thermal management system for a battery pack includes a plurality of main bodies disposed in a stack, an inlet conduit and an outlet conduit in fluid communication with the plurality of main bodies, and a retention panel coupled to the plurality of main bodies. The main bodies include a thermal fin and conduit and are formed using an extrusion process, which minimizes a weight of the thermal fin and heat sink while minimizing a cost of the thermal management system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 17, 2010
Date of Patent: July 23, 2013
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
    Inventors: Philip Klaus, Reiner Essinger
