  • Publication number: 20240379121
Abstract: A heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) device is configured to write regions of neutral polarity on a magnetic media during a same pass of the recording head in which other regions are written of positive polarity and negative polarity. The various disclosed write techniques may facilitate creation of “zero state” (substantially net zero polarity) transition zones between each pair of data bits of opposite polarity and/or may facilitate the encoding of three different logical states (e.g., 1, 0, and ?1) on the media.

  • Publication number: 20240378197
Abstract: Described are examples for querying a database that stores semantic data in a compressed linked tabular representation. An ordered list of relational operators can be extracted from a language-agnostic representation of a query for semantic data from the database. The language-agnostic representation of the query can be translated, based on the ordered list of relational operators, into a database query of a query language syntax that is supported by the database, and the database query can be executed on the database without decompressing the data stored in the compressed linked tabular representation.

  • Patent number: 12064761
Abstract: An instrument includes a reagent management system. The reagent management system includes a plurality of reagent wells, each reagent well operable to contain a reagent of a plurality of reagents positioned therein. The reagent management system is operable to select a flow of reagent from one of the plurality of reagents. A flexible connection includes a laminate stack and includes a first flexible channel in fluid communication with the reagent management system. The first flexible channel is operable to route the flow of reagent therethrough. A flow cell includes a flow channel in fluid communication with the first flexible channel. The flow channel is operable to route the flow of reagent over analytes positioned in the flow channel. The flexible connection enables the flow cell to be moved by the instrument relative to a fixed reference point in the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20200024326
Abstract: Self-activating chimeric signaling proteins, and especially chimeric TNF family member ligand-receptor proteins are contemplated. In preferred methods, the chimeric protein comprises an extracellular portion of CD40L that is coupled via a flexible linker to CD40 such that the fusion protein, when expressed in an APC, is capable of folding back on itself and transmits a CD40-mediated signal as if it had been contacted by CD40L located on another cell. Advantageously, cells expressing such chimeric proteins contemporaneously with presentation of an antigen will enhance an immune reaction against the antigen.

  • Publication number: 20100097082
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for determining, using real-time data, whether a removal process has been effective in removing a conductive coating from a removal site on a substrate of an electric device. The method includes determination of conductivity between the removal site and the intact conductive coating which relates to the absence or presence of the conductive coating in the removal site. The presence of conductive coating in the removal site indicates incomplete removal and thus enables real time correction thereof.

  • Publication number: 20100051087
Abstract: A solar panel utilizes at least one and, in one embodiment, three protective layers to eliminate the need for a metal frame. The protective layers may include one inorganic layer and two polymer layers, which are cured onto an underside of the panel. In one embodiment, the protective layers are cured over lateral edges of certain of the layers of the solar panel, including for example the conductor layers, semiconductor junction, and reflector layer. The protective layers may extend to cover an exposed edge along an underside of panel's superstrate. In one embodiment, the lateral edge of the superstrate is contoured to resist damage from rough handling and/or exposure to the elements. A support platform may be provided, and the solar panel secured thereon by way of interposing an adhesive between an underside of the panel and the support platform.
