  • Publication number: 20200240078
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for dewatering an aqueous cellulosic pulp slurry or mat of cellulosic fibers or sludge. The method includes adding at least one anionic surfactant and at least one amide of a carboxylic acid to cellulose containing material to form a treated material and then dewatering the material. Besides effective dewatering, the present invention also provides foam control such as, but not limited to, the suppression of foam. Pulp products containing the treatment compounds are also described.

  • Publication number: 20190249360
Abstract: A method of treating leather or hide is provided whereby a biocide and one or more detectable tags are applied to a piece of leather or hide. The detectable tag(s) can be detected to indicate one or more pieces of information, such as that the biocide has been applied to the piece of leather or hide and/or other information. Information about the biocide and the tannery that applied the biocide or other information can be discerned from detecting the detectable tag or from one or more of the detectable tags if used. A system for tagging leather or hide and applying a biocide are also provided as are methods and systems for detecting the tags.

  • Patent number: 9776900
Abstract: Methods to improve dewatering in industrial and municipal sludges are described. One method involves admixing sludge from a papermaking process and modified cellulose to provide modified sludge with the modified cellulose present in an effective amount to improve dewatering in the treated sludge, such as in allowing use of reduced amounts of coagulant and/or reducing dewatering times, increased dewatered volumes, and reduced sludge product moisture contents, and the like. The dewatered sludge may be formed into a dried particulate, and may be used as filler or other component of concrete, rubber, asphalt, plastics, resin-wood composite products, and other composite products.

  • Publication number: 20150197434
Abstract: Methods to improve water treatment for industrial uses are described. One method involves admixing source water, such as from a river or other flowing source or body of water, with a modified cellulose and a coagulant and/or flocculant to provide a treated water with the modified cellulose present in an effective amount to improve water treatment efficiency, such as in allowing use of reduced amounts of coagulant and/or flocculant, and/or reduced suspended solids, turbidity, and/or color clarification.

  • Patent number: 4425186
Abstract: A mixture comprising a cationic surfactant and a dimethylamide of a straight chain carbon carboxylic acid containing 12 to 18 carbon atoms is useful in the treatment of cellulose pulp to reduce inter-fiber bonding, thus obtaining a low mechanical strength pulp sheet and having little or no adverse effects upon the hydrophilic properties of said fibers.
