The membrane is disposed between the cathode plate and anode plate. A system provides a fuel cell including a first circular shaped separator plate attached with a circular shaped cathode plate. The cathode plate includes grooves on a lower portion. A circular shaped proton exchange membrane (PEM) plate having an upper portion attached with the lower portion of the cathode plate. A circular shaped anode plate is attached with a second circular shaped separator plate. The anode plate includes grooves on an upper portion. The PEM plate is disposed between the lower portion of the cathode plate and the upper portion of the anode plate.
