The control switches communicate with a cluster of worker nodes via the virtual IP address. A single instance of a key-value database is deployed on one of the first control switch and the second control switch that is operating in active mode, and the first control switch and the second control switch are functionally coupled by a distributed block system for data synchronization.

Abstract: In some examples, as part of implementing a service on a communication infrastructure that includes multiple different types of network domains, a system creates a distributed cloud of network functions, where the network functions are executable in virtualized environments on the physical resources to perform respective tasks. The system establishes a connection between the network functions to provide the service as part of service orchestration in the communication infrastructure, the service including the respective tasks of the network functions. Communication of data between the network functions includes translating, at an edge of the distributed cloud, domain-specific data packets according to protocols used in the multiple different types of network domains to domain-agnostic data packets comprising labels to support label-based forwarding of data packets between the network functions in the virtualized environments.
