  • Patent number: 8098816
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for evaluating resistance to cryptanalysis of a cipher structure having a diffusion element including a linear transformation placed between differently-sized confusion elements at an input and an output of the diffusion element. A generalized minimum number of non-zero symbols at the diffusion element's input and output is determined. The diffusion element's input is divided into subset inputs, each having a size corresponding to the size of each confusion element at the diffusion element input. For each subset input, a subset number of non-zero symbols at the subset input and the diffusion element output is determined. Each subset number is summed to generate a summed subset number. The summed subset number is subtracted from the generalized minimum number to generate a worst-case number. An upper bound of a maximum differential characteristic probability is calculated and used to evaluate the cipher structure.

  • Patent number: 8099266
Abstract: The invention is concerned with the design of oil wells by defining a number of design parameters, some of which are interdependent. The invention makes use of successive optimizations. Input data are selected for a first parameter and varied to achieve a first optimization. The process is repeated for a second parameter whose input data includes the first parameter, and then repeated for each other of the defined parameters. The design parameters may be presented to the user via a graphical interface such as a virtual reality view.

  • Patent number: 8094754
Abstract: A system and method are provided for holding the frequency of a non-synchronous communication signal in a clock and data recovery (CDR) device frequency synthesizer. The method initially acquires the phase of a non-synchronous first communication signal having a first frequency, and divides a first synthesized signal by a selected frequency ratio value, creating a frequency detection signal having a frequency equal to a reference signal frequency. In response to losing the first communication signal and subsequently receiving a second communication signal with a non-predetermined second frequency, the frequency ratio value is retrieved from memory based upon the assumption that the second frequency is the same, or close to the first frequency. Using a phase-frequency detector (PFD), the reference signal, and the frequency ratio value, a second synthesized signal is generated having an output frequency equal to first frequency.

  • Patent number: 8059774
Abstract: A system and method are provided for detecting the frequency acquisition of a synthesized signal in a non-synchronous communications receiver. The method accepts a non-synchronous communication signal having an input data signaling frequency, and compares the input data signaling frequency to a synthesized signal frequency. In response to the comparing, a difference signal pulse is generated. More explicitly, the difference signal is generated at a rate responsive to the difference between the input data signaling frequency and the synthesized signal frequency. The method counts synthesized signal pulses occurring simultaneously with the difference signal pulse. If the counted synthesized signal pulses exceed a threshold (before the disappearance of the difference signal pulse), it is determined that the input data signaling frequency is about equal to the synthesized signal frequency, and a lock signal is generated.

  • Patent number: 8027330
Abstract: Embodiments describe a system and/or method for efficient classification of network packets. According to an aspect a method includes describing a packet as a feature vector and mapping the feature vector to a feature space. The method can further include defining a feature prism, classifying the packet relative to the feature prism, and determining if the feature vector matches the feature prism. If the feature vector matches the feature prism the packet is passed to a data recipient, if not, the packet is blocked. Another embodiment is an apparatus that includes an identification component that defines at least one feature of a packet and a classification component that classifies the packet based at least in part upon the at least one defined feature.
