  • Patent number: 9206686
Abstract: A cutter tool that includes a shank by which the tool is releasably retainable within a tool holder, an enlarged shoulder or heel provided at one end of the shank and adapted, in use, to abut a seating surface of a tool holder and limit the penetration of the tool holder into a receiving aperture of the tool holder, and an integral blade provided beyond the enlarged shoulder or heel and terminating in a carbide or other tip. The tool is provided with a zone of weakness such that if subjected to fracture forces, a fracture will be encouraged to propagate from the zone of weakness in a particular desired manner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 8, 2012
Date of Patent: December 8, 2015
    Assignee: ESCO HYDRA (UK) LIMITED

  • Publication number: 20140312679
Abstract: A chain link (1) of steel has two spaced-apart transverse apertures (2) to receive portions of leading and trailing pivot pins (4) and, on an upper surface, a seat (6, 7) to receive a welded-in pick box (8), the link (1), at one side at least, being provided with at least one pad (14) of a material of higher wear resistance than the steel of the link (1). The invention also includes a steel pivot pin (4) for use in connecting together, in an articulated manner, steel links (1) of mineral cutter/removal chain, at least one end of the pin (4) being provided with a wear pad (16). The invention also includes a mineral cutting/removal chain for use with an inclined jib, constructed from an odd number of links (1) articulated on pins (4).

  • Publication number: 20090091177
Abstract: A mineral cutter system comprises a pick box (3) adapted to be secured, by welding, to a powered drum or disc (2) and having a bore (4) to receive a replaceable sleeve (5) having a collar (8) and also a circular section bore (15) to receive a circular section shank (16A or 16B) of a replaceable mineral cutter pick (17A or 17B), the bore (4) of the pick box (3) incorporating at least one flat (6), and the sleeve (5) being provided with at least one external flat (7) to engage the flat (6) whereby the sleeve (5) is non-rotatable with respect to the box (3), and the collar (8) of the sleeve (5) being both recessed (at 21) to accommodate a circular collar (20) of a point attack pick (17A), and slotted to provide opposed abutment faces (23) to engage a pair of opposed flats (27) of a non-rotatable, semi-forward attack pick (17B). The invention also includes a rotary drum or disc (1) provided with this cutter system and with either a rotatable or non-rotatable pick (17A or 17B).
