  • Patent number: 9365811
Abstract: A process to manufacture large coated detergent particles having perpendicular dimensions x, y and z, wherein x is from 0.2 to 2 mm, y is from 2.5 to 8 mm, and z is from 2.5 to 8 mm the particles being substantially the same shape and size as one another and the uncoated core particles comprising at least 50 wt % of soluble surfactant, the process comprising the steps of suspending uncoated core particles in a fluidized bed and spraying onto the core particles an aqueous slurry of sodium carbonate in admixture with 0.6 to 3 wt % sodium carboxy methyl cellulose and drying to form the coated particles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 10, 2011
Date of Patent: June 14, 2016
    Assignee: Conopco Inc.
Inventors: Judith Maria Bonsall, Philip Ronald Moore

  • Publication number: 20080214424
Abstract: A soluble unit dose of laundry detergent which comprises: a) a thin walled hard capsule, having a wall thickness between 0.07 and 0.3 mm and, c) within the thin walled hard capsule a detergent composition comprising at least 1 g of surfactant, which makes up at least 45% wt of the detergent composition. wherein the solubility of the capsule and the detergent composition is such that it will reach a level of 90% of eventually dissolved electrolytes in stirred demineralised water at 25° C. in less than 35 seconds. By choice of a capsule with this wall thickness the solubility is ensured while pressure caking of the contents is resisted to minimise overall dissolution time.

  • Patent number: 7208461
Abstract: An anionic surfactant particle for use in laundry detergent compositions has an anionic surfactant content of at least 95 wt % of anionic surfactant and comprises linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS) and primary alcohol sulphate (PAS) in a weight ratio of from 5:1 to 1:3. The particle, which is preferably in the form of a flake, is of low hygroscopicity and dissolves rapidly in water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 3, 2003
Date of Patent: April 24, 2007
Assignee: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA Division of Conopco, Inc.
Inventors: Siobhan Casey, Philip Ronald Moore
  • Publication number: 20040110656
Abstract: A solid porous surfactant body of low density, for example, a tablet, comprises a high level of surfactant: at least 60 wt % and preferably at least 75 wt %. Preferably a high level of anionic surfactant is present. Inorganic salts are preferably absent, or present only in small quantities. The body is typically in the form of an assembly of solid surfactant particles, for example, flakes, bonded together by means of heat and/or a binder.
