Publication number: 20250145301Abstract: A propulsion assembly includes a first torque source coupled with a first shaft and a second torque source coupled with a second shaft. A coupler selectively couples the first and second torque sources. When the first and second torque sources are coupled via the coupler, in response to a command to decouple the first torque source, an unloading operation is performed to decrease the torque output provided by the first torque source to a threshold, and when reached, the first shaft is decoupled from the coupler. When the first torque source is coupled with the coupler but the second torque source is not, in response to a command to couple the second torque source, a speed matching operation is performed to increase the speed of the second shaft to match a speed of the first shaft, and when the speeds are matched, the second shaft is coupled to the coupler.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2023Publication date: May 8, 2025Inventors: Darek Tomasz Zatorski, Kurt David Murrow, Paul Robert Gemin, Philip M. Cioffi, John Russell Yagielski

Patent number: 12270592Abstract: Heat switches are presented herein for controlling a flow of heat between thermal stages of a cryostat. In one aspect, a heat switch for a cryostat includes a thermal linkage configured to simultaneously contact a first thermal stage and a second thermal stage of the cryostat and define a thermal pathway therebetween. The thermal linkage includes a superconducting element disposed along a portion of the thermal pathway that is capable of transitioning between a superconducting state and a non-superconducting state. A thermal conductivity of the superconducting state is lower than a thermal conductivity of the non-superconducting state. Other types of heat switches are presented, including methods for controlling a flow of heat between thermal stages of a cryostat.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2022Date of Patent: April 8, 2025Assignee: Rigetti & Co, LLCInventors: Jean-Philip Paquette, Damon Stuart Russell

Patent number: 12261483Abstract: An electric machine with a low profile retention assembly for retention of a stator core is disclosed. A first housing houses the stator core. The first housing has an axial end face with a circumferentially extending, shaped profile having recessed portions that project axially inward alternating with non-recessed portions. A portion of the stator core extends axially out from the recessed portions. A core retention spring is disposed circumferentially at the axial end face of the first housing. The core retention spring has direct contact with the portion of the stator core that extends axially out from the recessed portions of the first housing and the shaped profile of the housing. The core retention spring pushes against the portion of the stator core that extends that extends axially out from the first housing, imparting one or more of an axial load and radial load into the stator core.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2022Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: GE INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Matthew Robert Martin, Philip Michael Cioffi, John Russell Yagielski, Wei Zhang

Publication number: 20250096311Abstract: Described herein are devices and methods for generating new, lower-cost chloride solid electrolytes useful for lithium ion batteries. The devices replace higher cost, difficult to acquire elements such as Sc with less expensive, readily available elements such as Mg and Zr to form a highly conductive spinel structure. These materials may have a high ionic conductivity on the order of 0.23 mS/cm.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2024Publication date: March 20, 2025Inventors: Christopher Linfield ROM, Philip Andrew YOX, Trevor Russell MARTIN, Annalise Elizabeth MAUGHAN

Patent number: 11786084Abstract: Apparatus is provided for manufacturing a wipe in a three-dimensional form out of an essentially flat piece of material. The apparatus produces a blank of essentially flat planar form with a pleat folded on each side. The folded blanks are fed by a conveyor belt to an opening station. The opening station comprises a pair of movable pinch rollers which selectively grab individual blanks from the conveyor belt and feed them via belts to a pair of counter-rotating drums. The blanks are ejected from the drums, which partially opens them up in the process. The partially open blanks are fed onto a shaped former, where the final process of forming the wipe into its chosen three-dimensional form is completed.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2021Date of Patent: October 17, 2023Assignee: Better All Around LimitedInventors: Oday Abbosh, Philip Russell Fawcus, Julian Brandon-Jones, Emanuel Nannizzi, Gianluca Giometti, Dave Reed
