  • Patent number: 9115431
Abstract: Compositions and methods for reducing stress corrosion cracking in steel vessels used for storing and/or transporting ethanol-containing fluids. Additives including oxygen scavengers and film-forming additives can be employed together in such ethanol-containing fluids (e.g., fuel grade ethanol) to mitigate stress corrosion cracking in steel vessels, such as pipelines, storage tanks, rail cars, and/or tanker trucks.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 6, 2011
Date of Patent: August 25, 2015
    Assignee: MIDCONTINENTAL CHEMICAL
    Inventor: Philip S. Korosec

  • Patent number: 5171466
Abstract: Oil-soluble dispersants are formed by reacting (i) at least one aliphatic hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acylating agent in which the hydrocarbyl substituent contains an average of at least 40 carbon atoms with (ii) a mixture consisting essentially of hydrocarbyl polyamines containing from 10 to 50 weight percent acyclic alkylene polyamines and 50 to 90 weight percent cyclic alkylene polyamines. Such dispersants exhibit improved compatibility with fluoroelastomers as compared to succinimides formed from conventional alkylene polyamine mixtures predominating in acyclic isomers.

  • Patent number: 4486324
Abstract: An aqueous hydraulic fluid comprising at least 80 percent water and containing a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid, a zinc dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate, a hydroxyalkylamine, sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate, and optionally, a polyalkylene glycol mono-fatty acid ester.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4376055
Abstract: A process for preparing sulfurized oxymolybdenum organophosphorodithio compounds is described which includes the steps of (A) reacting at reflux in an inert solvent for at least one hour (1) an oxide of molybdenum, (2) a sulfurizing compound selected from the group consisting of sodium hydrosulfide and sodium monosulfide, and (3) a dialkylphosphorodithioic acid, and then (B) recovering the reaction product. Certain of these compounds have fuel efficient characteristics, as well as extreme pressure (E.P.) performance when blended into mineral oils, greases or synthetic lubricating fluids.

    Filed: September 12, 1979
Date of Patent: March 8, 1983
    Assignee: Elco Corporation
Inventors: Philip S. Korosec, Litt Fredric A.
  • Patent number: 4045363
Abstract: Stable water-in-oil invert emulsions suitable for use as fire-resistant lubricants and as fire-resistant hydraulic fluids of improved extreme pressure (E.P.) properties are disclosed. A mixture of polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride, a member selected from the group consisting of a vegetable or animal oil or a mixture thereof, and a mono alpha-unsaturated olefin is sulfurized under heat. The sulfurized mixture is then reacted with a hydrophile on an equivalent basis. This compound is then blended with suitable base stock to form an invert emulsion with improved E.P. and anti-wear properties.
