  • Publication number: 20050212577
Abstract: A multi-turn pulse width modulation (PWM) generator for generating a PWM output corresponding to multiple 360 degree turns. A counter receives a reference signal, and counts a number of cycles of the reference signal to generate a binary output corresponding to the number of cycles counted. A frequency divider receives a sensor output signal, and divides the frequency of the sensor output signal by the number of turns in the multiple turns to generate a frequency divided signal. The sensor output signal has substantially the same frequency as the reference signal, but can be offset in phase from the reference signal. A demultiplexer receives the binary output, and generates a plurality of turn indicator signals, each corresponding to one of the multiple turns. A multiplexer receives the turn indicator signals and a mechanical turn indication signal, and selects one of the turn indicator signals that corresponds to the mechanical turn indication signal.

  • Publication number: 20050216716
Abstract: A method and system for a partitioned computer system includes the allocation and limiting of input/output (I/O) resources. The method involves reading an I/O key that allocates a system-wide upper limit on I/O resources. The limit may be divided by the number of active partitions within the computer system. Each partition may then be given an equal share of the available I/O resources. If any one partition exceeds the share of resources for that partition, the I/O resource use is capped to meet the maximum limit for that partition. A user may enter the system to customize the initially uniform distribution of I/O resource within the partitioned computer system. Additional partitions may be added or deleted to the computer system. The addition of a partition permits a dynamic reallocation of I/O resource so that a new partition may have a minimal I/O resource allocation for initial operation.

  • Publication number: 20050216757
Abstract: A tamper resistant software Agent for enabling, supporting and/or providing various services (e.g., tracking assets; data delete and updating software) comprises multiple functional modules, including a loader module (CLM) that loads and gains control during POST, independent of the OS, an Adaptive Installer Module (AIM), and a Communications Driver Agent (CDA). Once control is handed to the CLM, it loads the AIM, which in turn locates, validates, decompresses and adapts the CDA for the detected OS environment. The CDA exists in two forms, a mini CDA that determines whether a full or current CDA is located somewhere on the device, and if not, to load the full-function CDA from a network; and a full-function CDA that is responsible for all communications between the device and the monitoring server. In another aspect, the servicing functions that the Agent performs can be controlled by a remote server, by combining generic sub-function calls available in the Agent.
