Patent number: 11200391Abstract: This patent specification describes a barcode-reading enhancement accessory for a mobile device having a barcode-reading capability. The accessory may include an outer case and an inner carriage. A mobile device is encased in the inner carriage, and the combination of the inner carriage and the mobile device is accommodated in the outer case. The inner carriage is configured to accommodate a mobile device of a particular size such that a mobile device of a different size may be accommodated in the outer case using a different inner carriage. The accessory may also include an optic system to fold an optical path of a field of illumination of a light source of the mobile device and/or a field of view of a camera of the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2020Date of Patent: December 14, 2021Assignee: The Code CorporationInventors: Philip Utykanski, John Deal, Ryan Hoobler

Patent number: 11017191Abstract: An accessory for a mobile device may include a target generating structure. The target generating structure may emit a targeting pattern of illumination into a field of view of a camera of the mobile device. The targeting pattern may facilitate proper positioning of the mobile device for capturing an image of a barcode. The accessory may secure to a corner of the mobile device. The accessory may send a request to the mobile device to establish a focus setting of the camera. The target generating structure may emit the targeting pattern after the accessory sends the request.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2019Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: The Code CorporationInventors: Garrett Russell, Ryan Hoobler, Philip Utykanski

Patent number: 10430625Abstract: A barcode reading enhancement system for a mobile device is described. The barcode reading enhancement system may include an accessory. The accessory may be securable to the mobile device and include a one-way mirror. A first side of the one-way mirror may fold a camera field of view of a camera of the mobile device in a direction away from a top end of the mobile device. The accessory may also include a target-generating structure that projects a targeting pattern through a second side of the one-way mirror into a center of the folded camera field of view. The targeting pattern may assist a user of the barcode reading enhancement system in placing a barcode in the center of the folded camera field of view and thereby improve the quality of barcode images captured by the camera of the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2019Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: THE CODE CORPORATIONInventors: Aaron Joseph Ford, Ryan Hoobler, Philip Utykanski

Publication number: 20190228197Abstract: This patent specification describes an attachment for a mobile device. The attachment may have an attachment feature designed to be attached to a mobile device such as a smartphone, tablet, or smartphone/tablet with a camera. The attachment may also include an optics system and/or an illumination system that cooperates with the camera to facilitate the capture of decodable barcodes. The illumination system may include a targeting illumination system that facilitates proper positioning of the article and/or an exposure illumination system that helps illuminate the article during capture. The optics system may include a lens that modifies the depth of field and/or the size of the field of view of the camera, an aperture that helps define the field of view, a filter that prevents light of undesired wavelengths from reaching the camera, and/or a mirror that redirects the camera's optical pathway.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2019Publication date: July 25, 2019Inventors: Garrett Russell, Ryan Hoobler, Philip Utykanski

Publication number: 20050077805Abstract: A modular cabinet system is disclosed. Posts are mounted between a top member and a bottom member to form a sturdy frame. The frame is configured to slidably receive side panels to form an exterior. The frame is also configured to receive doors and shelving to form a door cabinet or drawers to form a drawer cabinet. The doors rotate on a hinge rod, which is received in the top and bottom members of the frame. Alternatively, the frame receives a set of drawers. The frame slidably receives drawer brackets in the posts of the frame. The drawer brackets are spaced to provide a desired clearance between drawers. The disclosed cabinets use the same frame and panels whether the cabinet is to receive doors or drawers. The cabinet is also easily assembled such that it can be shipped in a compacted form and assembled by the purchaser or user.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2003Publication date: April 14, 2005Inventors: William Dalebout, Philip Utykanski, Jon White, Devin Weber
