    Abstract: A reduced component wear valve is comprised of a valve body having a passage therethrough and a disc attached to a rotatable shaft. The disc is utilized with a seal forming a gap between the disc and the seal proximate to the rotational axis of the disc. When the disc is in the open position, the seal major axis is greater then the disc diameter and they do not touch. As the disc rotates to near closure, the disc perimeter engages the minor axis of the seal (which is smaller than the disc diameter), and the disc stretches the seal in the minor axis direction thus decreasing the major axis such that the gap is closed. The seal can be pre-formed in an elliptical shape or it can be formed into an elliptical shape by a retaining mechanism. The seal may be a single-piece or a multi-piece assembly press-fit into the valve body. Zero or light disc to seal contact during the majority of the valve disc rotation minimizes valve seal wear and rotational friction.

    Abstract: Well fluid extraction apparatus includes a resiliently downwardly biased discharge head and a canister lowerable from the discharge head into the well to receive fluid therefrom, and then liftable into telescoped engagement with the discharge head. A specially configured seal structure between the discharge head and canister resiliently exerts a downward releasing force on the raised canister to facilitate its subsequent separation from the discharge head. An embodiment of the discharge head is pressure balanced to prevent gas pressure in the well from driving it upwardly. Leveling structure is provided for operatively connecting the apparatus to the vertically sloped upper end of a well casing and vertically leveling the connected apparatus.

When the storage container is full the canister assembly is brought to the surface and emptied. In one embodiment the canister assembly has a battery to independently power the pump. A further feature of the invention includes repeatedly raising and incrementally lowering down the canister assembly to lower levels in the well using a jogging assembly to place the canister assembly only in the top layer of the fluid in the well. The system could also be used for recovering several other types of fluids in a well such as gas or water.

    Abstract: A fluid control valve for controlling fluid flow includes a valve housing having an inlet port, an outlet port, and a passage in the valve housing interconnecting and permitting fluid communication between the inlet port and the outlet port. The passage is substantially smoothly contoured along the length of the interior thereof so that when fluid flows through the passage, the flow of fluid will not substantially increase in turbulence in the passage. The fluid control valve further includes a removable valve seat having an inner flow aperture substantially matching the interior contour of the passage thereby minimizing the turbulence of fluid flow in the passage. A valve element is moveable between a first position wherein fluid flow is permitted through the passage and a second position wherein the valve element sealingly engages the valve seat substantially blocking fluid flow through the passage. The valve seat is removably mounted in the passage.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are valve seals wherein an annular metallic seal member is retained in an annular recess in a valve body wall, the seal member being resiliently deformable in both axial and radial directions. A resilient annular Belleville spring portion is provided linking an inner sealing portion and an outer flange portion which is sealingly engaged by the valve body. When a valve employing this seal arrangement is closed, differential pressure acting from either direction urges a valve closure member and the seal member in a downstream direction, and forces the seal member and the valve closure member into tighter sealing engagement.

A resilient annular garter spring is provided between the seal member and a converging surface on a wall of the valve body recess. When a valve employing this seal arrangement is closed, differential pressure urging the seal member in a downstream direction tends to deflect the seal member around the garter spring, while the garter spring tends to coact with the converging surface of the recess to provide a radially inwardly moving fulcrum for forcing the seal member into tighter engagement with a valve closure member.
