  • Patent number: 6782626
Abstract: A fixed blade knife or bayonet having integral blade and tang portions and a handle having a cavity extending therethrough from distal to proximal ends. A slot is formed in the tang, extending from an open end at the terminal end of the tang to a closed end, with a narrower slot portion extending from the open end and adjoining a wider portion which extends to the closed end of the slot. A nut having a threaded bore is formed with a first cross dimension slightly smaller than the width of the wider slot portion and a second cross dimension, larger than and perpendicular to the first cross dimension. The nut is inserted laterally into the wider slot portion and the tang, with the nut carried therein, is inserted into the handle cavity, which has a cross sectional outline corresponding to that of the combined tang and nut. A screw is inserted into the bore which forms a portion of the cavity extending into the proximal end of the handle.

  • Patent number: 5887347
Abstract: A hand tool, e.g., a knife, includes a handle with a pair of spaced cover pieces, at least one blade or other implement pivotally attached to the handle for movement with respect thereto between folded and extended positions, a locking lever for maintaining the blade in the extended position until manually released, and a beam spring urging the lever toward the locking position. The tool also includes a liner in the form of a flat, metal plate affixed to one of the cover pieces within a recess closely surrounding the periphery of the liner and having a depth substantially equal to the liner's thickness. The beam spring is an integral part of the liner, being formed by a slotted or cut-away area providing an elongated arm integrally connected at one end to a body portion and having an opposite, terminal end portion extending laterally to bear against the locking lever.

  • Patent number: 5044079
Abstract: A knife having at least one blade or other implement foldable about a pivot axis at one end of the handle. A separate lock lever is associated with each blade or implement and has an end portion engaging a notch in the blade adjacent the pivot point to prevent movement of the blade away from the open position until the lock is manually released. The lock levers are mounted for limited pivotal movement at an intermediate position and urged toward engagement of the one end portion with the blade notch when the blade is moved to its open or erected position by respective beam springs. The improved beam springs are mounted upon linings in a position laterally spaced from their respective lock levers. The beam spring end opposite the mounted end is curved and extends laterally through a hole in its associated lining and contacts its associated lock lever.

  • Patent number: 4819289
Abstract: A hand tool including a handle portion and a substantially flat blade having a plurality of curvilinear configurations spaced about the peripheral outline thereof for cooperatively engaging certain portions of a rifle to perform various operations thereon. The blade is attached at one end to the handle portion, preferably with a pivotal connection permitting opening and closing movement in the nature of a folding pocket knife. The blade includes a squared end serving as a screwdriver tip on the end opposite the pivotally mounted end, a convex curved portion between two linear portions on one longitudinal edge, and an outwardly projecting tip or pin adjoining a concave, curved portion on the other longitudinal edge serving as a spanner wrench. Each of these three portions of the blade is engageable with one or more portions of conventional rifles, and/or auxiliary equipment used therewith, to assist in adjustment, assembly, disassembly, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4805303
Abstract: A knife having a plurality of blades or other implements foldable about a common pivot axis at one end of the handle. A separate lock lever is associated with each blade or implement and has an end portion engaging a notch in the blade adjacent the pivot point to prevent movement of the blade away from the open position until the lock is manually released. The lock levers are pivotally mounted at an intermediate position and urged toward engagement of the one end portion with the blade notch by respective beam springs contacting the lock levers on the opposite sides of the pivotal mountings. The locks are released by pressing upon portions of the lock levers arranged in transverse grooves which are longitudinally offset along the back of the knife at the end opposite the end at which the blades are pivotally mounted.
