Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for operating a navigation device comprising an input device into which operating commands and/or location data, especially start data and/or destination data, can be entered, a road network database, a route calculation unit for calculating and storing a planned route taking into account the location data and the road network database, a signal receiving unit for receiving position signals, particularly GPS signals, a position determining unit for determining the current position of a vehicle, and a display device. In embodiments, the method comprises the following steps: a) the current vehicle position is determined taking into account the received position signals; b) a route preview is calculated which represents at least one section of the planned route as a film sequence, starting from the current vehicle position; c) the route preview is displayed.

The text object comprises a multitude of letters and serves for identifying, for example, a geographic characteristic on the map illustration. The text object comprises several letters, the font sizes or spacings of which are reduced relative to the spacings between the other letters of the text object. The text object can be displayed on monitors with small dimensions, particularly in the field of navigation systems. It is also possible to display larger text objects such as, for example, long street names on small navigation monitors such that they can be easily recognized without occupying valuable monitor space required for other purposes.

The navigation apparatus comprises a navigation unit (2), a position determination apparatus, a processor apparatus having an operating memory, a mass memory apparatus for receiving a data bank, a display apparatus, an operating element configuration, a sound output apparatus, and navigation software. The present invention is distinguished in that the display apparatus and operating element configuration are situated separately in a mobile multimedia playback device (1). The present invention allows a combination of the two separate device and service species “navigation” and “personal multimedia” by expanding the area of use of multimedia playback devices and associated provider services to the field of navigation. The operating interface familiar to the user and the familiar access to the data and services of the service provider are also maintained for the new area of application of navigation.
