The light engine comprises an LED circuit, wherein the LED circuit comprises a number of LED stands each comprising a number of LEDs. The light engine further comprises a control unit comprising a memory unit for storing a maximum allowable current value for the light engine, and a digital interface for receiving and/or sending data, wherein the control unit is configured to output the maximum allowable current value stored in the memory unit via the digital interface for configuring the driver so that the electric current provided by the driver does not exceed the maximum allowable current value of the light engine.
