Patent number: 8676519Abstract: A device and a method for aiding inflation for a vehicle involves obtaining access to vehicle tire pressure and temperature data, and utilizing an under-inflation detection module and an inflation condition testing module, thus making it possible to carry out a test for detecting a possible optimal inflation condition if the following criteria are met:—there is a non-critical under-inflation state for at least one of the vehicle tires;—the tires are not in an overheated state;—and the tire state is unchanged by sunlight. When the test module determines the optimal inflation condition, a signal is outputted. Such a method causes tire inflation to be carried out under favorable conditions actually corresponding to the reference value provided by the manufacturers.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2009Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignees: Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin, Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A., TRW Automotive U.S. LLCInventors: Franck Liberge, Philippe Corniot

Publication number: 20110184669Abstract: The invention relates to a method for aiding inflation for a vehicle, comprising access to vehicle tire pressure (10) and temperature (20) data, an under-inflation detection module (50), and an inflation condition testing module (30) making it possible to carry out a test for detecting a possible optimal inflation condition if the following criteria are met:—there is a non-critical under-inflation state for at least one of the vehicle tires;—the tires are not in an overheated state;—and the tire state is unchanged by sunlight. When the test module (30) determines the optimal inflation condition, a signal is outputted. Such a method causes tire inflation to be carried out under favorable conditions actually corresponding to the reference value provided by the manufacturers. The invention also relates to the corresponding device for aiding inflation.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2009Publication date: July 28, 2011Applicants: SOCIETE DE TECHNOLOGIE MICHELIN, MICHELIN RECHERCHE ET TECHNIQUE S.A., TRW AUTOMOTIVE US, LLCInventors: Franck Liberge, Philippe Corniot

Patent number: 7706930Abstract: The method consists in adjusting the pressure of a tire (5) according to a corrected set value Pcc calculated using formula (I), wherein: Pc is a set value recommended by a car manufacturer and a tire producer; Tp is the temperature of the tire (5), supplied by a temperature sensor installed in the tire, and Tref is a variable reference temperature which is selected as being the lowest temperature from the instantaneous ambient temperature measured (at 37) at the site of the inflating machine (2) and a calculated mean value for ambient temperature, the pressures Pc and Pcc being in absolute value and temperatures Tp and Tref being given in degrees K.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2004Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A.Inventor: Philippe Corniot

Patent number: 7658099Abstract: Method for determining the load condition of a vehicle (60) moving at non-zero speed, the vehicle being equipped with a plurality of tire-wheel assemblies (41-42, 51-52) mounted on at least two axles and with devices that enable determination of the vehicle's speed and the rotation frequencies or speeds and actual inflation pressures of at least two tire-wheel assemblies mounted on two different axles of the vehicle, the method comprising the following stages: (A) determination of the inflation pressures and rotation frequencies of two tire-wheel assemblies mounted on two different axles; (B) calculation of the load difference between the two tire-wheel assemblies from the vehicle's speed and the rotation frequencies of the two tire-wheel assemblies, taking into account the actual inflation pressures; (C) determination of the load condition by comparing the calculated load difference with at least one predetermined threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2007Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignees: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A., TRW Automotive U.S., LLC.Inventor: Philippe Corniot

Publication number: 20090091437Abstract: A method for monitoring the inflation pressure and assisting the reinflation of a tire of a wheel of a vehicle equipped with a system specific to the vehicle for monitoring the inflation pressure of the tires. The devices detect the pressure and temperature of the tires of the vehicle, and analyze the pressure and temperature values. The current value of the inflation pressure of the tire is compared with a setpoint pressure that is corrected as a function of the tire temperature provided by the device for detecting the temperature of the tire concerned and corresponding to a reference temperature dependent on the temperatures measured during the most recent starts of said vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2006Publication date: April 9, 2009Inventor: Philippe Corniot
