  • Patent number: 6272930
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for measuring the pressure of a liquid flowing in a tube (20, 22) into or out from the human body, the device comprising: an elongate body (10) having first and second ends (12, 14), an axial bore (16) opening out into said ends and defined by an inside wall (16a), and a recess (18) opening out into said axial bore between its two ends, each end of said body having means (12a, 14a) for connection to said tube (20, 22); and a pressure sensor (30) having a portion mounted in sealed manner in said recess (18), the surface of said sensor which is subjected to the pressure of said liquid being of a shape that is flush with the inside wall of said axial bore at said recess.

  • Patent number: 5683408
Abstract: The invention relates to a surgical instrument of the punch forceps type, designed to perform trabeculectomy, the instrument including an elongate body (101) on which an elongate lever (102) is hinged, and a punch (110) constituted by a tubular blade (120) and a cutting plunger (130). According to the invention, the tubular blade (120) of the punch (110) is mounted to be forwardly inclined so as to define an obtuse angle (a) with the body (101) lying essentially in the range 95.degree. to 160.degree., and the notch in the cutting plunger (130) of the punch (110) has a cutting edge (134) which is raised so as to be capable of engaging the tissue to be cut when said plunger is withdrawn. The punch (110) is preferably mounted so as to be interchangeable, thereby making it possible to have a cutting plunger that is interchangeable or suitable for single use.

  • Patent number: 5609630
Abstract: The present invention relates to an intraocular implant (1) which includes a central lens (2) and at least two elastically deformable securing arms (3), each of which is connected via one of its ends (4) to the central lens (2). Each of the securing arms (3) exhibits a general direction which is radial with respect to the central lens (2), and each of the securing arms includes, at its free end (6) opposite to the central lens (2), an arched bead (7) which is convex towards tho outside. The curvilinear length (L1) of the arched bead (7) is at least equal to a third of the diameter (D) of the central lens (2).

  • Patent number: 4973330
Abstract: A surgical apparatus for partially modifying the curvature of the cornea of an eye while the eye is within the patient is disclosed. The device is able to ablate a zone of corneal material in the form of a lenticular lamina. The thickness of the lamina at any particular point on the cornea surface varies as a function of the radial distance between that point and the central optical axis of the eye. The surgical apparatus comprises: a source of light (31) capable of emitting a beam of light (4) having a wavelength which is about 200 nanometers; an optical system (32) for directing and focusing the beam of light onto the desired zone of the cornea in order to ablate a lamina of material of the desired dimensions; and, a series of diaphragms and screens for obscuring varying portions of the zone of the cornea undergoing ablation in order to effect differential irradiation of the corneal surface.
