  • Publication number: 20200208274
Abstract: An energy converting device and method for converting electric energy into chemical energy, including an electrolysis device which can be connected to an electrical network and is designed to split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electric power; a fuel synthesis device which is fluidically connected to the electrolysis device such that the fuel synthesis device can be supplied with hydrogen generated in the electrolysis device as a reactant, wherein the fuel synthesis device is designed to synthesize a fuel from hydrogen and carbon dioxide; and an internal combustion engine which is fluidically connected to the electrolysis device such that the internal combustion engine can be supplied with oxygen generated in the electrolysis device. The internal combustion engine is designed to be operated in a continuous mode using the oxygen generated in the electrolysis device as combustion gas.

  • Patent number: 10287969
Abstract: An internal combustion engine including at least one combustion chamber having a main chamber and a prechamber, wherein the prechamber is in fluid connection with the main chamber via at least one bore. The at least one combustion chamber is connected to a charging path for the supply of a combustion air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber via the charging path. A fuel intermixing region is arranged in a section of the charging path separately assigned to the combustion chamber, which fuel intermixing region is in fluid connection with the charging path on one side and with a fuel line on the other side for the supply of fuel into the fuel intermixing region via a controllable fuel valve. The internal combustion engine wherein the prechamber and the fuel intermixing region are in fluid connection with one another via a check valve.

  • Patent number: 9404413
Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion machine (10), comprising a combustion engine (1) having an exhaust gas side (AGS) and a charging fluid side (LLS), and having a supercharger system (14) comprising an exhaust gas turbo charger (40) for charging the combustion engine (1), having a condenser array (41) on the charging fluid side (LLS) and a turbine arrangement (42) on the exhaust gas side (AGS), a compressor (3), the primary side (I) of which is connected to the charging fluid side (LLS), and the secondary side (II) of which is connected to the exhaust gas side (AGS). An electric machine (4) configured as a motor/generator is coupled to the combustion engine (1), wherein the electric machine (4) as a generator can be powered by the combustion engine (1), or can power the combustion engine (1) as a motor, wherein the compressor (3) can be powered directly by the electric machine (4) via a mechanical drive coupling (13).

  • Publication number: 20160146140
Abstract: A method for operating a quantity-controlled internal combustion engine having at least two cylinders, including the following steps: ascertaining a present operating state; determining a number of cylinders or cylinder groups to be deactivated in dependence on the present operating state; deactivating or keeping deactivated a fuel supply for at least one cylinder to be deactivated or at least one cylinder group if at least one cylinder or at least one cylinder group is to be deactivated; and opening a flow-influencing element associated with the at least one cylinder or the at least one cylinder group for a fresh mass supply to the at least one cylinder to be deactivated or the at least one cylinder group to be deactivated.

  • Publication number: 20150233313
Abstract: A method for operating a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, including: supplying a fuel mixture having two fuel types and air into a combustion chamber; burning the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber during a working stroke; detecting the pressure profile in the combustion chamber during the working stroke by one pressure sensor per combustion chamber; determining an amount of energy per working stroke and per combustion chamber from the pressure profile. In order to enable different fuel types and/or fuel qualities to be taken into consideration in the regulation of the engine, the calorific value of the fuel mixture per working stroke and per combustion chamber is determined from the volume and/or the mass of the supplied fuel mixture and from the determined amount of energy per working stroke and per combustion chamber. At least one parameter of the engine is regulated as a function of the calorific value.
