  • Patent number: 8631978
Abstract: A tundish assembly, including an element, for preventing or limiting steel reoxidization in the continuous casting of molten steel, is used in combination with a refractory nozzle. The element has an orifice engaging the outer surface of the nozzle, a main surface surrounding the main orifice and having a lowest level lower than the top outer edge of the nozzle inlet portion, and a periphery having an upper face surrounding the main surface of the element. The upper face of the periphery of the element is higher than the main surface of the element and is higher than the surface of the bottom well of the tundish. The main surface of the element is arranged so as to contact molten steel in a tundish.

The element has an orifice engaging the outer surface of the nozzle, a main surface surrounding the main orifice and having a lowest level lower than the top outer edge of the nozzle inlet portion, and a periphery having an upper face surrounding the man surface of the element. The upper face of the periphery of the element is higher than the main surface of the element and is higher than the surface of the bottom well of the tundish. The main orifice of the element is off-center with respect to the main surface and the upper face of the periphery may have various heights. The main surface of the element is arranged so as to contact molten steel in a tundish.

  • Publication number: 20070210494
Abstract: The invention relates to a stopper rod adapted to deliver gas during pouring of molten metal comprising a stopper body having an internal chamber and a gas discharge port, a bore connecting the internal chamber to the gas discharge port, the internal chamber and the bore defining a gas passageway. According to the invention, the walls of the gas passageway are provided with a layer of a material which will not produce carbon monoxide at the temperature of use. The stopper rod of the invention does not contaminate the gas passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 7258157
Abstract: The invention relates to a side wall (1) of a plant for the continuous casting of metal strip (5) between two counter-rotating rolls (2, 2?) having horizontal axes and being internally cooled, the surfaces of which define a casting space confined laterally by two side walls (1) made of refractory, of the type comprising: a support plate (6) on the front face of which a recess (7) is made; an insert (9) made of hard material placed around the periphery of the recess (7); a lining (11) that fills the remainder of the recess (7); characterized in that the front face (12), turned towards the casting space, of the said lining (11) is set back by a maximum distance (d) from the front face (13) of the insert (9) over at least part of its length.

  • Patent number: 6667263
Abstract: The present invention provides a composite pressure-sintered material comprising a continuous phase of hexagonal boron nitride and, dispersed therein, a second material comprising (a) at least one metal nitride selected from the group consisting of silicon, aluminium and titanium nitrides and (b) at least one stable metal oxide; wherein the amount of metal oxide is such that the second material does not contain more than 35% by weight of oxygen. This material possesses a low thermal expansion coefficient and therefore reveals good thermal shock resistance. Another characteristic of this material is its low wettability by molten steel which is thus responsible for excellent chemical resistance to liquid metal. Finally, this material is exceptionally mechanical wear resistant.
