Abstract: Sonic energy is applied to parts of the human body by a device having an applicator end at which a predetermined amplitude under applied loads is generated. A predetermined acoustic pressure is produced at the applicator end as well as a predetermined shear stress. The applicator is slanted at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the device and a predetermined mechanical power is produced.

The liquid reservoir can be turned upside down to encase the liquid driving mechanism and the nozzle for a compact storage position. The sidewalls of the reservoir is undulated so as to provide a convenient way to grip or engage the lid of the reservoir.

Abstract: A hygienic device comprising an a.c. oscillating motor which has a fixed oscillation rate dependent on the a.c. supply frequency. The amplitude of the oscillations or torque of the motor is varied by varying the power supplied to the motor. The amplitude or torque may be varied in discrete steps by switching different resistors in series with the motor. Reed switches are used to switch the resistors and are mounted obliquely, to facilitate assembly and to reduce the danger of electric shocks to the user.

Abstract: A diagnostic lamp for fluorescent excitation of a fluorescible material applied to parts of the body, and particularly useful for preventive checking of the teeth and gums by self-observation. A housing is provided with a light source and battery for supplying power thereto, a dispenser for fluorescible material, and a mounting structure for coupling the dispenser to the housing in a manner permitting its replacement. The dispenser is arranged on a first insert assembly. The batteries, lampholder and bulb, switch and leads are mounted on a second insert assembly, and the assemblies can be pushed into either open end of the housing and locked into position.

Abstract: An apparatus for personal hygiene, in particular for oral hygiene which includes a reservoir removably fitted on a casing for containing a liquid supply, and, furthermore, structure is provided for receiving a dispenser of a hygienic, cosmetic or therapeutic product, in particular a dentifrice solution, for addition to the liquid in the reservoir. For facilitating bucco-dental hygiene, the apparatus also includes a hydraulic pump within the casing connected by a flexible tubing to a handpiece having any particular type of spray head. The reservoir is adapted to supply liquid to the pump and, at the same time, is designed to receive the dentifrice solution from the dispenser. The dispenser structure can be independently formed and mounted on the apparatus casing or can be incorporated into the reservoir structure. The apparatus is also designed to serve as a cleaning device for dentures, and in this connection, the dispenser would contain a cleaning fluid for dispensing into the reservoir.
