  • Patent number: 7178455
Abstract: A compacting press having a support section, a compacting section which undergoes translational movement along a vertical axis (Z, Z?) which is fitted with a thrust-plate and which forms a ram designed to compress cases by the application of pressure, and a guide assembly made up of a skirt, with a liner, a hoop and a cradle. The cradle is fitted to a skirt holding section by a removable connection made up of a reversible assembly system involving the fitting into place and horizontal movement of at least one key-hole shaped opening which passes vertically through the cradle and at least one vertically orientated mushroom-shaped lug. This press is preferably used for compacting a case containing hazardous materials, in particular radioactive waste.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 21, 2004
Date of Patent: February 20, 2007
Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Matieres Nucleaires
    Inventors: Patrick Jacq, Philippe Kerrien

  • Patent number: 6110307
Abstract: The present invention relates to a compacting process suitable particularly for the compacting of materials with a pyrophoric tendency and especially for the compacting of scrap metal generated in the nuclear industry: and compacting means (4), and a compacting device including said means (4), appropriate for the implementation of said process. In said process the blanketed materials are compacted with optimized complementary external blanketing. The inert gas used for said external blanketing is characteristically conveyed via the compacting means (4) and blown in through their lower end (15).

  • Patent number: 5915569
Abstract: A device comprising two coaxial drums (22, 24) is proposed in order to separate and then proportion objects of different sizes. The objects are introduced into one end of the inner drum consisted mainly of a coil (32) wound in a spiral. Large objects are retained in this inner drum and are routed when in rotation. Small objects drop into the outer drum (24) and are routed to its other end when it is driven in rotation. Small objects drop into the outer drum (24) and are routed to its other end through a spiral inner header (50) when it is driven in rotation. Thus objects such as hulls and end pieces obtained after cutting irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies can be separated and then proportioned.

  • Patent number: 5733088
Abstract: The disclosure relates to packaging and storage containers suitable particularly for the packaging and storage, with optimum filling, of remote-handled hazardous waste; a process for filling the containers; and the implementation of the process for the packaging and storage of compacted nuclear waste. The containers are equipped inside, along one or more axial walls, over substantially the whole of their height h, with locking elements capable of undergoing elastic radial deformation on direct contact with the products introduced therein, the locking elements allowing the introduction and movement of products inside the containers only when force is applied to the products.

  • Patent number: 5613433
Abstract: A compacting method and apparatus particularly adapted to compacting hazardous materials, and in particular radioactive waste, in which a container (1, 1', 1", 1"') is compacted inside a compacting skirt (20) by cooperation between a support surface (7) on which the compacting skirt (20) with the container (1') is placed and a compactor (9) disposed faing the support surface (7) and displaceable along a vertical axis inside the compacting skirt (20). According to the compacting method the compacting skirt (20) containing the container (1, 1', 1", 1"') is moved in translation, in particular between a loading station (I) for loading the container (1), a compacting station (II) where the container (1') is compacted, and an unmolding station (III) for unmolding the compacted container (1") and for evacuating the compacted container (1"') downwards.
