  • Patent number: 4761221
Abstract: A process for the decomposition of a halogenated organic compound which comprises contacting the compound with a polyglycol and an alkali or alkaline-earth hydride, optionally in the presence of an alkali salt, at a temperature which does not exceed 100.degree. C., and under an atomosphere having a reduced oxygen content. The process is particularly useful for the decontamination of industrial oils containing chlorinated biphenyls because the treated oil is not degraded during the decontamination process.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 2, 1988
    Assignee: Labofina, S.A.
Inventors: Carmela A. Rossi, Philippe Nelis
  • Patent number: 4724070
Abstract: The decomposition of polyhalogenated aromatic compounds, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), is carried out under an inert atmosphere using a reagent comprising a polyglycol partially neutralized with sodium, and a weakly basic compound.

Date of Patent: February 9, 1988
    Assignee: Labofina, S.A.
