Patent number: 10718334Abstract: The application is directed to a compressor having a housing with a fluid compression region to rotatably support a compressor rotor. The housing includes an inner wall formed as a thin wall positioned about the compression region and an outer wall spaced radially outward of the inner wall. A cooling chamber is formed in a space between the inner and outer walls. A rib formed on the inner wall projects into the cooling chamber to provide structural support and prevent thermal deformation of the thin inner wall during compressor operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2016Date of Patent: July 21, 2020Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand Industrial U.S., Inc.Inventors: Sven Herlemann, Jan Hauser, Michael Beinert, Philipp Schulze-Beckinghausen

Patent number: 10451061Abstract: A compression system is disclosed having a compressor and a seal package including a non-contact seal and one or more radial shaft seals. In one form the non-contact seal is placed in proximity to a high pressure portion of the compressor. The offset of the non-contact seal from a shaft used to drive the compressor allows some amount of pressure reduced leakage air to pass. A radial shaft seal is coupled to the shaft axial aft of the non-contact seal on the other side of the compressor and oriented to discourage further passage of the leakage air past the radial shaft seal. A vent conveys leakage air to return to the compressor. A backup radial shaft seal can be used axially aft of the first radial shaft seal. A further radial shaft seal is disposed adjacent to the backup seal and oriented in the other direction to seal lubricant for a bearing.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2016Date of Patent: October 22, 2019Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventors: Michael Beinert, Jan Hauser, Philipp Schulze-Beckinghausen, Sven Herlemann

Publication number: 20180172195Abstract: An aspect of the present disclosure includes a compressor system operable for compressing a working fluid. An integrated muffler and pressure pulse dampener (IMPPD) is operable for reducing pressure pulsations and attenuating noise in the working fluid. The IMPPD system includes an elongate axial passageway bounded by an outer wall having a plurality of apertures extending therethrough. A first portion of the working fluid enters through the central elongate section and a second portion of the working fluid passes through the pertures. The first and second portions of working fluid merge together downstream of the IMPPD inlet and cause a dampening of pressure pulsations propagating within the working fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2016Publication date: June 21, 2018Inventors: Philipp Schulze-Beckinghausen, Jan Hauser, Michael Beinert, Sven Herlemann

Patent number: 6589301Abstract: A process and apparatus for industrial-scale preparation of an emulsified fuel including a water phase in a continuous organic phase which contains less than 20% by volume of water, and at least one additive necessary for forming the emulsified fuel. The fuel is formed by mixing and homogenizing the organic phase and the additives, forming a volume V, inside an homogenization tank with internal circulation rate Qc, such that Qc/V≧100 h−1, circulating the homogenized fluid in a branch loop emerging from the tank at a rate Qcirc, and through at least one emulsifying system located on said loop, at a rate such that 0 h<V/Qcirc≦2 h, feeding the aqueous phase into the branch loop upstream of the emulsifying system, and maintaining the homogenization in the tank and the circulation of the liquid in the branch loop until the emulsion acquires a desired characteristic of storage stability.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2001Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: Elf Antar FranceInventors: César Magnin, Jean-Bernard Prudhomme, Philippe Schulz

Patent number: 6347884Abstract: The invention concerns a method and device for determining the temperature stability of a water-hydrocarbon emulsion capable of phase separation by monitoring the weight variations of a gravimetric sensor part of which is immersed in said mixture. The method consists in a first step of cooling or heating the emulsion to a predetermined temperature; and a second step during which the emulsion is maintained at this temperature, the time-dependent variation curve of said weight in time enabling the determination of the solid mass collected and the separation speed into two phases by determining the slope of this curve, the stability of the emulsion being obtained by comparison with reference emulsions known to be stable.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1999Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Elf Antar FranceInventors: Yan Faure, Jean-Marie Letoffe, Philippe Schulz
