  • Patent number: 5790605
Abstract: In an improved diversity repeater (200), a plurality of frame sets (213) corresponding to a message are received by a time stamper (202) such that frames within each frame set are time stamped. An arrival time differentiator (204) determines arrival time differentials (217) for each frame set based on time stamps. An averager (206) averages the arrival time differentials together. The resulting averaged arrival time differentials (219) are used by a voting window determiner to determine a new voting window (221). The new voting window is used to perform voting on frame sets corresponding to a subsequent message.

  • Patent number: 5774812
Abstract: A method for use by a voter in a communication system includes the steps of receiving (201) a frame of information, wherein the received frame has a frame number. It is determined if a reference frame for the frame number exists (203). If a reference frame for the frame number does not exist, the received frame is set (205) as a current reference frame for the frame number and an output criterion is set (207) for the frame number. When the output criterion for the frame number is satisfied, the current reference frame is output (211) as the output frame for the frame number. If a reference frame for the frame number exists, the frame is voted (209) against the reference frame for the frame number, yielding the current reference frame.

  • Patent number: 5604733
Abstract: Time division multiplex (TDM) radio communication systems require a method of providing communication service to a plurality of subscribers throughout a coverage area. This coverage area typically includes a central resource allocator and a plurality of satellite receivers throughout the coverage area. The method includes the step of, upon receipt of a transmission from a subscriber, transmitting to the central resource allocator an arrival time for the transmission. The central resource allocator then selects, based at least in part on the arrival time, a favorable satellite receiver for facilitating subsequent transmissions from that subscriber.

  • Patent number: 5521794
Abstract: A radio (100) which includes a plurality of printed circuit boards (101) which are positioned in a planar arrangement so to provide a substantially fiat structure. The printed circuit boards (101) are connected using flexible conductors (105) which mechanically and electrically couple the printed boards (101) and provide a flexible link to allow the printed circuit boards (101) to be manipulated into various configurations. A flexible radio housing (151) is used to encapsulate the printed circuit boards (101) and flexible conductors (105) allowing radio (100) to be impacted and/or easily manipulated without crushing the contents. The radio (100) may be worn and easily concealed on the body without risk of breakage.
