  • Patent number: 5996393
Abstract: A method and apparatus has been developed for the work hardening of tungsten alloy rods while achieving a high degree of diametrical control. The method employs multiple extrusions through extrusion dies designed to prevent cracking and delamination of the rods.

Date of Patent: December 7, 1999
    Assignee: Osram Sylvania Inc.
Inventors: Dennis P. Buttleman, Phillip D. Wurzler, Kenneth D. Brown
  • Patent number: 5370023
Abstract: A cutting tool for simultaneously forming a plurality of deep, narrow, closely spaced parallel grooves in a hard, brittle substrate material comprises a rigid housing which defines a plurality of closely spaced cutting blade cavities, each of said cavities being constructed to receive and rigidly hold a cutting blade therein, and cutting blades rigidly mounted in each of said cavities.

  • Patent number: 4766665
Abstract: A method is disclosed for shaping parts made of tungsten and of tungsten with thoria. The method involves machining the parts with a machining apparatus wherein the machining tool is made of diamond or material of which tungsten carbide is the main phase, the material having a hardness of greater than about 91 Rockwell A, the machining being done at a speed of from about 40 to about 120 surface feed per minute, and a feed rate of from about 0.0002 to about 0.006 inches per revolution. Machining of parts made of tungsten is done with cooling with a halocarbon solvent. Machining of parts made of tungsten and thoria can be done with or without cooling.
