Publication number: 20080020087Abstract: A method of treating wood or other materials to deter animals, including birds, from chewing and pecking on the materials and to isolate toxic chemicals from the environment. The method includes preparing a basic composition which has isophorone and an epoxy resin and an epoxy catalyst and from 5 to 50 percent by weight of polyvinyl chloride. The basic composition is mixed with a polymer hardener to form a wood treating composition for wood or other materials which are impregnated with the wood treating composition under pressure to form a material resistant to animal chewing and pecking thereon and which simultaneously forms a shell or coating on the material to prevent leaching of the wood preservative from the wood. The process may include mixing the treating composition with a wood preservative.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2006Publication date: January 24, 2008Inventor: Phillip G. Landers

Patent number: 6596204Abstract: A process of micro-encapsulating a volatile liquid includes selecting a volatile liquid, such as Isophorone, and porous ceramic particles for encapsulating the volatile liquid. The volatile liquid and porous particles are mixed and a vacuum is applied to the mixture to impregnate the volatile liquid in the porous particles. A polymer catalyst for the polymer resin, such as an epoxy catalyst for use with an epoxy resin, is mixed with the volatile liquid and porous particles to saturate the particles. The polymer resin, such as epoxy resin, is added to the mixture for forming a resin cured shell around the porous particle holding the volatile liquid to form a microencapsulated volatile liquid. The resin is only cured on the outer shell of the porous particle when coming in contact with the catalyst supported with the volatile liquid in the porous particle.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2002Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Inventor: Phillip G. Patent number: 6217688Abstract: A method of repairing a flanged pipe joint includes selecting a flexible sheet of material and mounting a tube through the selected material to form a passageway therethrough. One end of the mounted tube is positioned against a flanged pipe joint and the flexible sheet of material is wrapped around the pipe flange joint and attached thereto. A coating, such as an epoxy polymer, is coated over the wrapped flexible material extending over the flanged pipe joint and adjacent pipe, which coating is cured while any liquid leaking from the flanged pipe joint escapes through the tube. Once the coating is cured, the tube can be plugged by either removing the capped tube or injecting a material to seal the tube. The tube also has an end member shaped to fit over a flanged joint for positioning the pipe for drainage of material leaking from the flanged joint.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Inventor: Phillip G. Patent number: 5245812Abstract: A structural element at least partially defining a void space is strengthened and stabilized by filling the void space with a structural foaming agent. The predetermined quantity of structural foaming agent used is such that it has the capacity to foam and expand, when unconfined, to a volume substantially greater than the volume of the void space. Bubbles created during the foaming of the structural foaming agent burst at the interface between deteriorated wood surrounding the void space to create a pulsing action which promotes impregnation of the deteriorated wood by the structural foaming agent.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1992Date of Patent: September 21, 1993Inventor: Phillip G.
