  • Patent number: 5294417
Abstract: A process for the removal of mercury from industrial waste streams is disclosed wherein the waste stream is a nitrate based solution that has been decomposed by the addition of hypochlorite. The method involves adding a reducing agent to reduce the hypochlorite and/or adjusting the pH by the use of a strong acid to less than about 2.0, converting any residual chlorine to a soluble unreactive salt, adding a soluble precipitating agent, such as sodium sulfide, to the solution in a ratio to the mercury present of greater than 1:1 to about 2:1 to precipitate out the mercury as a mercury compound. The solution is then filtered to remove the precipitated mercury compound.

  • Patent number: 4710594
Abstract: A telecommunications cable having no metal sheath, but having a plurality of equally pre-tensioned and inextensible tensile members embedded in the cable jacket. These members are spaced apart around the core and extend longitudinally of the cable to apply an axially compressive force upon the jacket. The members may be glass fibers and each member is preferably a roving of fibers. The filaments may be coated with a material which sticks them to the jacket and the core may be filled with a moisture blocking material.

  • Patent number: 4500747
Abstract: Cable plug and method of manufacture in which hardened plugging compound surrounds individually insulated conductors and a radially resilient spring is placed around the compound which holds the spring permanently in a resiliently expanded condition to compress the compound onto the individual insulations of the conductors. In one arrangement a sleeve surrounds and intimately contacts the compound and at least one rib on the inner surface of the sleeve is urged against a complementary groove in the compound by the spring.
