  • Patent number: 6950674
Abstract: A cordless phone 1 is able to communicate signals 3 via antenna 2 and 3 with transponder unit 5. When the transponder 5 is physically connected (as shown) via multi-way connector 12 to base station 19, the system communicates via PSTN interface 9 and cable 10 connected to local-loop socket 11 within a fixed telephone network. When the transponder 5 is disconnected (not shown) from base station 19, the system communicates via external antenna 6 by radio link with a local base station within a cellular phone network. The base station 19 provides means to recharge the batteries (not shown) of cordless phone 1 via connectors 13 and transponder unit 5 via connectors 14, with dc supply being provided by power plug 16 via cable 17. The transponder unit may include a display screen and PDA electronics (not shown), or, be incorporated within a portable computer (not shown).

  • Publication number: 20010020403
Abstract: A ratchet wrench having two in-line torque bars 23 and 24 which also serve as the lever bars for an integral T-bar wrench; whereas, the torque bar 21 of the T-bar wrench also serves as the lever bar of the ratchet wrench. One or more of the bars can be extended to provide increased leverage and the outer tubes 28 or 36 may be tightly gripped to steady the tool whilst allowing the torque bars to freely rotate. The ratchet wrench and T-bar combination provides the user with a single versatile hand tool having variable reach, given that bar 21 is significantly longer than bar 23 or 24, without the need to add an extension torque bar. The ratchet mechanism is located in the housing 22 and may comprise a non-adjustable one-way drive, incorporating deeply cut ratchet teeth to provide a high strength tool.

  • Patent number: 6257104
Abstract: A lug wrench for tightening and loosening of vehicle wheel nuts and incorporating at least one pair of drive heads or socket heads (11, 6) for cooperation with or engagement of a wheel nut. The socket head (6) may be located selectively at either end of an unequal L-shaped bar (14) enabling the brace to be gripped at (12) or (13) for the respective loosening or tightening of wheel nuts. A one-way ratchet mechanism (15) is adapted to be locked in the wheel nut loosening direction but is free in the wheel nut tightening direction preventing use of the longer length bar to tighten the nuts. A jack-driving attachment (9, 10) may be provided and attached in place of socket head (6). The lug wrench may comprise several separate parts attached or attachable together to provide the appropriate L-shaped configuration such that a nut loosening torque may be approximately twice the available nut tightening torque.

  • Patent number: 4618545
Abstract: A sealed lead acid recombination electric storage cell comprises a container containing alternating positive and negative plates separated by separators. Each separator includes reinforcing means extending over substantially its entire area and constructed to define a plurality of apertures and being surrounded by microfine glass fibre material. The plates and separators are under a compressive force and the reinforcing members are so constructed and arranged that the major proportion of the compressive force is transmitted through the reinforcing members while the major proportion of the area of the plates is contacted by the glass fibre material.
