Abstract: A method and apparatus for sending multicast packets from a first node to a plurality of nodes in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The method and apparatus comprise creating a neighbor list identifying a type of node for each neighboring node in the wireless communication network and sending a multicast request from the first node having a common type to a second node having a home type. Then, receiving the multicast request at the second node so that the second node can create a multicast packet from the multicast request and sending the multicast packet by the second node to the plurality of nodes in the wireless communication system.
