  • Patent number: 6405913
Abstract: A paperboard carton for storing and dispensing a roll of web material, such as plastic film, foil, wax paper, etc. has a plastic (e.g. polystyrene) cutting blade that is adhered to an inside front lip of the paperboard carton lid. The polystyrene cutting blade preferably has a thickness of about {fraction (20/1000)} of an inch, and preferably contains aggressive teeth at the ends of its serrated edge to help initiate tearing of the web material. The aggressive teeth are larger in size than the remaining teeth of the serrated edge. Use of the polystyrene cutting blade allows for increased production rates without compromising performance.

  • Patent number: 6375058
Abstract: A paperboard carton for storing and dispensing a roll of web material, such as plastic film, foil, wax paper, etc. has a plastic (e.g., polystyrene) cutting blade that is adhered either to an inside surface of the front wall of the paperboard carton, or to an inside surface of the bottom wall of the paperboard carton. A slot is die-cut through the paperboard carton blank at the appropriate location in order to allow the serrated edge of the cutting blade to protrude through the slot and expose the teeth in a location suitable for tearing the web material. Use of the plastic or polystyrene cutting blade allows for increased production rates without compromising performance.

  • Patent number: 5392919
Abstract: A package for an elongated object such as a flashlight consists of a front panel and a rear panel, with two or more spaced V-shaped ribs being formed in the front panel. One end of the object is engaged with a first one of the ribs, and the opposite end of the object is engaged by the second one of the ribs in a manner such that the portion of the object between the ribs is exposed. Openings are formed in the walls of the front panel defining the ribs, and are configured in a manner so as to positively retain both ends of the object in position relative to the ribs once the front and rear panels are secured together. The package further includes a third rib spaced from one of the first or second ribs. Openings are formed in the third rib and the adjacent rib so as to receive end package objects such as batteries for the flashlight in a manner such that a portion of the length of the batteries is exposed between the ribs.

  • Patent number: 5083701
Abstract: A folded paperboard container formed of a flat sheet of paperboard having a thermoplastic coating on a surface thereof. The sheet includes a bottom panel and a pair of side panels each connected to the bottom panel along a first fold line. End panels are connected along second fold lines to each side edge of the side panel. The sheet is folded along the first and second fold lines and the overlapping end panels are heat sealed to provide an open-ended container. The thermoplastic coating is located on the inner surface of the folded container. A molded plastic dispenser lid is secured by heat sealing within the open end of the container.

  • Patent number: 4828164
Abstract: A folded container formed from a single sheet of material and having an integral header. In the flat unfolded state, the sheet comprises a series of generally rectangular side wall panels connected together by fold lines and the side wall panels have aligned side edges. A series of bottom wall panels each has an inner edge connected by a fold line to a side edge of the corresponding side wall panel. A connecting panel is connected to the outer edge of an end bottom wall panel of the series by a severable joint, and a header panel is connected by a fold line to the outer edge of the connecting panel. In the folded, unopened state, the end bottom wall panel is disposed flatwise against the corresponding end side wall panel and the connecting panel is glued flat against the end side wall panel, with the header panel projecting upwardly beyond the side wall panel. The container is moved to its open state by skewing the side wall panels to a rectangular configuration, thus severing the joint.
