Patent number: 7969297Abstract: Light sources are affixed at appropriate positions in a multilevel structure or in an obstructed environment. The light sources generate modulated light signals, such as controlled light-emitting diodes, which identify the positions of the light sources by their three-dimensional global positioning coordinates and/or equivalent representation that specifies their in situ locations in the environment. Mobile communication devices, upon receiving the light signals, can derive spatial positioning information and transmit such information to a remote location, such as an emergency response system.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2008Date of Patent: June 28, 2011Assignee: Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications ABInventors: Jacobus C. Publication number: 20110096766Abstract: A transceiver circuit and a method in a wireless communication network are provided, where a signal power level for a signal received at the transceiver circuit is measured and compared to a predefined threshold power level. At least two groups of power amplifiers may be used, where one group is optimized for high efficiency above the predefined threshold power level, and one group is optimized for high efficiency below the predefined threshold power level. Patent number: 7606705Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for channel decoding speech frames in a receiver capable of multiple (M) codec modes, wherein channel encoded speech frames include an inband bit portion and a speech portion. An inband bit decoder decodes the inband bit portion (700) of a received frame to obtain confidence levels associated with each of the M codec modes. Using these confidence levels, the codec modes are ordered from most to least likely. The speech frame is then decoded by a channel decoder using the most likely codec mode (704). A frame determination check (720) is performed to determine the quality of the decoded speech frame. If the decoded speech frame is determined to be of poor quality, then the channel decoding process is repeated using the next most likely codec mode (736) corresponding to the next highest inband bit decoding confidence level. This process is repeated until a good speech frame is decoded or some exit criteria is reached.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2004Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Sony Ericsson Mobile CommunicationsInventors: Phillip Marc Johnson, Ramanathan Asokan

Publication number: 20080240013Abstract: To perform closed loop power control, a receiving station measures the signal strength of a received signal transmitted from a transmitting station, generates periodic power control commands based on the signal strength measurements, and transmits the periodic power control commands to a transmitting station to control the transmit power level of the transmitting station. A power control filter is used to adapt the power control mechanism when the transmitting station is operating in a compressed mode to compensate for intermittent transmission by the transmitting station in the compressed mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2007Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications ABInventors: Phillip Marc Johnson, William O. Publication number: 20080153429Abstract: A base station monitors the uplink load and sends control signals to one or more mobile terminals to selectively enable and disable compressed mode operation. The base station can divide the mobile terminals into groups and can assign different compressed mode patterns to different groups of mobile terminals so that the transmissions from mobile terminals in different groups while in compressed mode are not synchronized. If load imbalances occur, the network can reassign mobile terminals from one group to another.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2006Publication date: June 26, 2008Applicant: SONY ERICSSON MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS ABInventors: Phillip Marc Johnson, Ramanathan Asokan, William O. Patent number: 7200171Abstract: A method of estimating initial channel quality in a receiver when allocated a new channel in order to select an optimal codec mode in a multi-rate service is disclosed. One implementation initially fills the filter state with the first received channel quality measurement. Another embodiment proportionally fills the entire filter state with the calculated channel quality measurements. Yet another embodiment uses the hysteresis and threshold parameters in conjunction with the initial codec mode to calculate an initial fill value for the filter state.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2003Date of Patent: April 3, 2007Assignee: Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications ABInventors: Stephen K.
