  • Publication number: 20140327225
Abstract: A device for human conveyance includes a frame and a resilient member that has two ends. Upon exerting a flattening force on the resilient member, increase in distance between the two ends and the increase in distance is converted into movement of the platform by, for example a ratchet system interfaced to a wheel.

  • Patent number: 8820763
Abstract: A device for human conveyance includes front and rear wheels. The rear wheel interfaces to a sprocket/gear through a ratchet drive system allowing forward rotation of the rear wheel responsive to forward rotation of the sprocket/gear and allows free backward rotation of the sprocket/gear. The front and rear wheels are rotatably interfaced to a frame that keeps the front wheel at a constant distance from the rear wheel. A front end of an arc-shaped spring is affixed to the frame and a rear end of the arc-shaped spring has sprocket/gear teeth that are interfaced to the sprocket/gear whereas depression of the arc-shaped spring pushes the rear-end of the arc-shaped spring in a rearward direction with respect to the rear wheel and the sprocket/gear teeth turns the sprocket/gear in a forward rotational direction. A resilient member is disposed between the arc-shaped spring and the frame to absorb shock.

  • Publication number: 20140076075
Abstract: A spiral gear converts reciprocating motion into rotational motion or rotational motion into reciprocating motion. An interface travels along a spiral such that, as the interface is displaced in a first linear direction, the spiral is caused to rotate clockwise, and as the interface is displaced in a second, opposite linear direction, the spiral is cause to rotate in a counterclockwise direction.

  • Publication number: 20130122516
Abstract: Particular disclosed embodiments disclosed herein concern using a one or more various mass tags, which can be specifically deposited at targets through direct or indirect enzymatic-catalyzed transformation, to provide a method for identifying targets in tissue samples. The mass tags may be labeled with stable isotopes to produce mass tags having the same chemical structure but different masses. Mass codes produced by ionizing the mass tags are detected and/or quantified using mass spectrometry. The method can be used for multiplexed detection of multiple targets in a particular sample. In some embodiments, a map divided into sections representing sections of the tissue sample may be prepared, with the map sections including data corresponding to quantification data wherein the size of a mass peak is determined and correlated with the amount of a target for the corresponding tissue sample section.

  • Publication number: 20120200694
Abstract: Multiple modality contrast can be used to produce images that can be combined and rendered to produce images similar to those produced with wavelength absorbing stains viewed under transmitted white light illumination. Images obtained with other complementary contrast modalities can be presented using engineered color schemes based on classical contrast methods used to reveal the same anatomical structures and histochemistry, thereby providing relevance to medical training and experience. Dark-field contrast images derived from refractive index and fluorescent DAPI counterstain images are combined to produce images similar to those obtained with conventional H&E staining for pathology interpretation.

  • Patent number: 7992788
Abstract: Modular, portable data collection terminals are disclosed for use in mixed wireless and hard-wired RF communication networks, wherein various radio transmitter modules and associated antennas may be selectively added to a base terminal unit to solve networking problems associated with specific types of business environments. Modularity exists in both the hardware (splitting data collection and processing control circuitry from radio transceiver control circuitry) and software (splitting transceiver-specific, lower level communication protocol from generic, higher level communication protocol). The control circuitry, including associated microprocessors devices, interact to selectively activate communication circuits to perform necessary communication or data processing functions and enter and remain in a power-saving dormant state during other times. To support such dormant or “sleeping” states, a series of communication protocols provide for channel access to the communication network.

  • Patent number: 7920496
Abstract: A mobile customer service station operating within a wireless multi-hop communication network includes a console on a wheeled chassis. The console carries and houses a number of components which are used in merchandising operations to conclude customer purchase transactions. The items supported externally on the console are a printer for printing purchase receipts, customer credit charge agreements and records of transactions, and a magnetic card reader for reading information from a magnetic stripe of a customer's credit card. In one embodiment, the operation of the printer, credit card reader and the cash drawer is controlled by a multi-function control unit located within an enclosure of the console. The control unit is electrically powered by a self-contained power source which is preferably a deep cycle rechargeable battery. The console also houses a transceiver unit which under the control of the control unit is capable of interactive communication with a premises network.

  • Patent number: 7918401
Abstract: Portable measuring devices which communicate by low power transceivers through a communication controller with a printer device collect weight and size data on articles to be shipped. The collected weight and size data are combined with origin and destination data, and labels are printed bearing pertinent shipping and routing information in machine readable format. The labels are attached to the articles to be shipped and accompany the articles to their respective destinations. At transfer points the labels are read by scanner devices which also communicate by low power transceiver links with the communication controller. The wireless linking of the scanner devices promotes human safety by the absence of cords which could cause entanglement of an operator in mechanized conveying equipment. The communication controllers at each stage of the shipping process have the capability of transferring received and updated status information on the shipped articles to a central data station.

  • Patent number: 7851145
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods of diagnosing cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer by detecting Na+, K+-ATPase expression. For example, it is demonstrated herein that expression of the Na+, K+-ATPase ?1-subunit increases in cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer, relative to normal cervical tissue. Also provided are methods of treating cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer by decreasing the biological activity of the Na+, K+-ATPase. For example, therapeutically effective amounts of one or more Na+, K+-ATPase inhibitors can be applied to the cervix to treat cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer.
