Patent number: 10314647Abstract: An electrosurgical device having a tubular outer shaft and an inner shaft is disclosed. The tubular outer shaft includes an axis and a distal end region. The distal end region includes a distal-most tip and a cutting edge defining a window in the outer shaft proximal along the axis to the distal-most tip. The inner shaft inner shaft coaxially maintained within the outer shaft such that the inner shaft is movable about the axis with respect to the outer shaft and wherein a portion of the inner shaft is exposed in the window of the outer shaft. A first electrode is disposed on the outer shaft in a region proximal along the axis to the window, and a second electrode is electrically isolated from the first electrode and disposed on the inner shaft. The second electrode is exposed in the window of the outer shaft.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2014Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: Medtronic Advanced Energy LLCInventors: Eliot F. Bloom, Phillip Berman, Wenjeng Li, David J. Little, Dana A. Oliver, John R. Prisco, Phillip P. Brown, Patrick Richart

Patent number: 5772818Abstract: A device for collecting particles, such as human cells, from a fluid sample, and for transferring the collected particles to a receiver, such as a glass microscope slide, provides substantially exact replication of the spatial distribution of the cells on the collection device. The device supports a surface-collecting filter on a tubular rim, with a precise degree of flatness, and fastens the filter in place at a mounting shoulder recessed below the rim. Distortions of the mounting shoulder or of the filter at the mounting shoulder, caused by securing the filter to the shoulder, are confined to the shoulder structure, and do not detract from the desired precision flatness of the filter and rim structure.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: Cytyc CorporationInventors: Lewis T. Polk, Jr., Hugh Vartanian, Phillip P. Brown, Walker M. Sloan III

Patent number: 5611994Abstract: An improved luminometer is provided which uses a top loading plate carrier which receives a microtitration plate and uses a mask having an aperture corresponding to each test cell in the plate carrier. When the mask rotates downwardly to cover the microtitration plate, the plate carrier automatically orients the microtitration plate in the X, Y and Z directions. Reagents are added to the individual test cells through the mask aperture. Each reagent injector is extendable and retractable so that liquids can be added below the mask aperture during purging or washing and then the injector retracted. A pump is provided for each injector which is driven by a stepper motor and a rack and pinion connection to a syringe.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1995Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: Dynatech Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: James S. Bailey, Phillip P. Brown, Kenneth W. Simpson, Walter W. Taylor

Patent number: 5282978Abstract: A specimen processor, for operation with holder apparatus carrying a viewing screen and a filter device and a container of a biological sample, has a frame with reference structure for aligningly engaging the holder apparatus, and has a transport that carries a manipulation device. The processor operates the transport and the manipulation device to engage the filter device, remove it from support by the holder apparatus and collect cellular particles from the sample onto the filter device. The processor further operates the transport and manipulation device to abut the filter device with the viewing screen for transferring collected cellular particles to the screen, and to return the filter device to carrying by the holder apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1992Date of Patent: February 1, 1994Assignee: Cytyc CorporationInventors: Lewis T. Patent number: 4508463Abstract: A high density dot matrix printer is disclosed which can print characters with variable font and having print resolution close to that of a typewriter. Printing on both a forward and reverse pass of a line of characters with the dot print head coupled with offsetting the dot matrix print head for the reverse pass printing doubles the line density in printing characters to increase resolution. In addition, a compacted character code arrangement is utilized having a different printing code for the reverse pass printing than for the forward pass printing, and uses single binary words to represent many dot printing positions dependent on the location of the single binary word in the character code coupled with using single binary words to represent many possible dot positions in which no dots are to be printed.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1982Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Wang Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: An Wang, Phillip P.
