  • Patent number: 11586504
Abstract: An electronic apparatus and a boot method thereof are provided. The electronic apparatus includes a first controller, a basic input output system (BIOS), and a second controller. The first controller is configured to receive a boot code and provides the boot code to the electronic apparatus for performing a boot operation. The BIOS is configured to provide the boot code. The second controller has at least one communication interface. The at least one communication interface is configured to be connected to at least one external apparatus. The at least one external apparatus provides a backup boot code to the second controller. When the boot operation performed by the electronic apparatus according to the boot code provided by the BIOS fails, the second controller replaces the first controller to receive the backup boot code and provides the backup boot code to enable the electronic apparatus to perform the boot operation.

  • Patent number: 9529581
Abstract: A circuit for writing program codes of a basic input/output system (BIOS) is connected to a main circuit and a BIOS. The BIOS stores a BIOS program code and has a BIOS identifier. The circuit includes a data source connection interface, a judgment trigger module and a write module. The data source connection interface stores an available BIOS program code matching with the BIOS. The judgment trigger module judges whether the BIOS is capable of, after a power-on initialization phase starts, completing loading the BIOS program code and performing system initialization in a preset time. If the BIOS is incapable of completing loading the BIOS program code and performing system initialization within the preset time, the judgment trigger module sends a trigger signal. After receiving the trigger signal, the write module downloads the available BIOS program codes according to the BIOS identifier, and writes to the BIOS, to overwrite the current data.

  • Publication number: 20130318513
Abstract: An apparatus for updating firmware or parameters is disclosed. The apparatus is disposed in a computer system and electrically coupled to a platform controller hub (PCH) chipset having a first USB host interface and a nonvolatile memory. The apparatus comprises: a second USB host interface; a switch element, electrically coupled to the first USB host interface, the second USB host interface and a USB device, wherein the switch element electrically couples the USB device to either the first USB host interface or the second USB host interface; and a control element, electrically coupled to the second USB host interface and the switch element, wherein when the computer system is not powered on normally, the control element controls the switch element to electrically couple the USB device to the second USB host interface, wherein the control element fetches a firmware or parameters stored in the USB device and updates the nonvolatile memory with the fetched firmware or the parameters.
