Abstract: The present application provides a ventable package capable of releasing pressure upon the application of heat or internal pressure. The ventable package may include a container and a lid. The lid may include a sealing layer attached to the container and a foil layer attached to the sealing layer. The sealing layer may include one or more slits therein such that, upon the application of heat or internal pressure, the foil layer separates from the sealing layer about the one or more slits to release the pressure therein.

This closure and finish presented herein are particularly suited to small PET containers for carbonated beverages, for example less than or about 400 mL and provide good carbonation retention and shelf life.

Abstract: A bottle constructed to resist distortion and denting upon handling through distribution and/or expansion and contraction of its contents. An upper portion has a rounded upper shoulder and a series of grooves. A bottom portion is concave and has a plurality of alternating generally vertically extending long and short swirl grooves, the spaces between the long swirl grooves above the short swirl grooves being smooth to easily flex in and out to contract and expand. A main circumferential groove separates the upper and bottom portions and has a depth such that it can flex vertically when a vertical force is applied tending to push the upper portion against the bottom portion.
