  • Patent number: 10045236
Abstract: A transmitting device may use a determined extent of retransmissions by the transmitting device to a receiving device as a basis to decide on an extent of concatenation of frames of media. In one example, a transmitting device may monitor an extent of retransmissions by the transmitting device to a receiving device during a packet-based real-time media session. The transmitting device may detect a threshold low extent of retransmissions during the packet-based real-time media session. And responsive to detecting the threshold low extent of retransmissions, the transmitting device may increase an extent of concatenation of frames of media during the packet-based real-time media session.

  • Patent number: 9391889
Abstract: Example methods and systems for requesting information from the Internet Domain Name System (DNS) based on a destination and one or more codecs of a source specified within a computer-readable invitation to establish a communication session are described. A source gateway or a user agent device can generate the invitation. A DNS record associated with the destination can specify codecs used by the destination or a gateway the destination uses to carry out communication sessions. A proxy server that received the invitation and the DNS record can select a gateway that uses a codec that matches a codec used and preferred by a gateway. The proxy server can forward the codec to selected gateway, in particular, to an IP address and port associated with the selected gateway, for notifying the destinations of the requested communication session. The invitations can comprise SIP INVITE messages.

  • Patent number: 9247478
Abstract: Methods and systems for routing mobile device calls, based on a converted telephone number of a mobile device, location information of the mobile device, and trunk group identifiers. A query requesting one or more routes for a mobile device call is generated. The query includes a converted telephone number of the mobile device and location information of the mobile device. One or more responses identifying one or more routes for the mobile device call are received from a centralized routing function. The one or more responses each include an originating trunk group identifier. The originating trunk group identifier includes an egress trunk group. Upon receiving the one or more responses, the mobile device call is routed using an outbound trunk group of a response from the centralized routing function.

  • Patent number: 8355396
Abstract: A terminal adapter such as a residential gateway or an eMTA is configured to receive a set of signals such as a 403 message from network devices operating in a VoIP network. In response to receiving the signals, the terminal adapter provides audio information to a caller at a telephone. For example, when the caller attempts to make a call, the terminal adapter receives a 403 message which causes the terminal adapter to play an audio file to the caller.

  • Patent number: 8059799
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide methods, systems, and computer-readable media for achieving a higher call completion rate in a system experiencing a mass calling event. The present invention has several practical applications in the technical arts including optimizing use of network resources during a mass calling event. In various embodiments, a network's resources are efficiently utilized by way of sampling a network element's control processing unit utilization. Additionally, the various embodiments respond by selecting to negatively acknowledging callers in a mass calling event state in order to prevent system components from becoming overloaded. Overloaded network system components lead to such issues as dropped signaling packets, and higher percentages of call failures. Embodiments of the invention are directed to achieving optimal call completion in the case of a mass calling event.

  • Patent number: 8014292
Abstract: Methods and computer-readable media are provided to select the optimal route for communicating a signaling message in a telecommunications networking environment. The method includes receiving a signaling message at a sending proxy that is responsible for sending the signaling message to its destination. To determine the best route, the sending proxy inspect its dynamic routing table to identify one or more potential routes that can be used to communicate the signaling message to its destination. The optimal route is determined by a numeric value, which may be based on one or more of a cost, the relationship between service providers, quality, or the like. Once the optimal route is determined, it is communicated from the sending proxy to the receiving proxy, often through one or more intermediary proxies.
