  • Patent number: 4453856
Abstract: A self-propelled pavement lane apparatus comprising a radial-frequency microwave generator extending across one lane of the roadway having an antenna with a slotted waveguide directed toward the roadway for heating a lane-wide stretch of the roadway. A ripping device is provided behind the microwave generator to rip up pavement which was heated by the microwave generator. A screw conveyor conveys the heated and ripped pavement inwardly toward a central axis of the apparatus where it is fed by a chute to a mixing chamber containing counter-rotating mixing blades. Fresh bituminous binder and/or filler may be added to the mixing chamber to be mixed with the ripped pavement which is then discharged from the mixing chamber by a second screw conveyor, to be distributed across the lane. Following the second screw conveyor is a finished plate for initially compacting the refinished surface.

  • Patent number: 4219802
Abstract: A scanning barrier which can detect and discriminate objects which are within the scanned area. A transmitter on one side of the scanned area transmits a laminar barrage of electromagnetic microwaves across the scanned area. The laminar barrage of electromagnetic microwaves have a thin width and a predetermined height. A receiver across the scanned area receives the microwaves. The receiver is formed of a plurality of vertically adjacent elemental receivers which divide the laminar barrage into a series of horizontal slices. A logic circuit is connected to each of the elemental receivers and can detect the interruption of the laminar barrage to that elemental receiver.

  • Patent number: 4023017
Abstract: A traffic control system having a number of detectors spaced along a roadway being monitored. The detectors are organized in groups, each group being interconnected to a different post. The posts include transmission and reception equipment for communicating with the detectors of that group. A transmission line system has a number of sections with a single section corresponding respectively to a single group of detectors. The sections of the transmission line system are also respectively coupled to the posts. The posts are also organized into groups, each group being interconnected to a control computer. All the control computers are connected to a central computer and an operating center. The various computers can be set to control the traffic in response to the information detected. Also, communications can be carried out, both in code and in clear, between the vehicles using the roadway and the computers or the operating center.
