  • Publication number: 20140347126
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for digital predistortion for a concurrent multi-band transmitter using a single adaptor and a same set of predistortion coefficients for separate digital predistorters for each band. In one embodiment, the single adaptor is configured to adaptively configure a set of predistortion coefficients based on a memory polynomial digital baseband model of the digital predistorters having a same set of predistortion coefficients for each of the digital predistorters. By using the same set of predistortion coefficients for the separate digital predistorters for each band, a complexity of the digital predistortion is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 8890609
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing band-limited power amplifier linearization. In one embodiment, a system includes a power amplifier configured to amplify a power amplifier input signal to provide a power amplifier output signal and a digital predistortion system configured to compensate for up to a predefined maximum order of non-linearity of the power amplifier. The digital predistortion system includes a band-limited adaptation subsystem. As compared to conventional adaptation subsystems, the band-limited adaptation subsystem is significantly less complex and consumes less power.

  • Publication number: 20140009225
Abstract: A method and system for determining adaptation parameters for pre-distorters in a multi-band power amplifier system of a communication system are disclosed. A method includes receiving, at an adaptor, a reference signal comprising a first plurality of signals having substantially overlapping frequency spectra. Each of the first plurality of signals is input to a corresponding one of a plurality of pre-distorters. The adaptor also receives an observation signal comprising a second plurality of signals tuned to substantially a same frequency to have overlapping frequency spectra. Each of the second plurality of signals is derived from an output of the multi-band power amplifier system. The adaptor computes the adaptation parameters based on the reference signal and the observation signal.

  • Publication number: 20130273872
Abstract: In a digital receiver, an ADC converts an analog RF signal to a digital RF signal at a sample rate of fADC, which is converted into M parallel streams of RF samples. Each stream has a sampling rate of fADC/M, where M is a positive integer greater than 1. After translation into M parallel streams of IF samples centered about an IF of fADC/4, they are demodulated by applying first coefficients to even IF samples to produce even demodulated samples and applying second coefficients to odd IF samples to produce odd demodulated samples. The even samples are filtered using first filter coefficients and the odd samples are filtered using second filter coefficients to produce a complex baseband signal.

  • Patent number: 8514979
Abstract: A superheterodyne receiver includes an A/D converter for converting an IF signal to a stream of samples at a sampling frequency that is four times the IF and a splitter that splits the stream of samples into a first set of even samples and a second set of odd samples. A first quadrature demodulator demodulates just the first set of even samples to produce one of real (I) and imaginary (Q) components of a complex signal at one half of the sampling frequency, and a second, parallel quadrature demodulator demodulates just the second set of odd samples to produce the other of the I and Q components. The demodulated first set is filtered using a first subset of filter coefficients, and the demodulated second set is filtered using a second subset of filter coefficients. The filter outputs correspond to a baseband complex signal. The technology disclosed reduces overall hardware complexity and operating frequency by a factor of two or more.

  • Publication number: 20130094616
Abstract: A method and apparatus for digital down conversion and demodulation of a radio frequency (RF) signal are disclosed. A sampling frequency for sampling the RF signal is chosen, based on a bandwidth and a safety margin, so that a bandwidth of the sampled signal falls substantially within a predetermined frequency zone. The sampled signal may be digitally demodulated at a demodulation frequency selected to be substantially equal to a baseband alias of a carrier frequency of the signal.
