  • Patent number: 11553210
Abstract: Video coding tools can be controlled by including syntax in a video bitstream that makes better use of video decoding resources. An encoder inserts syntax into a video bitstream to enable a decoder to parse the bitstream and easily control which tools combinations are enabled, which combinations are not permitted, and which tools are activated for various components in a multiple component bitstream, leading to potential parallelization of bitstream decoding.

  • Patent number: 11544824
Abstract: Described are methods and devices for applying a color gamut mapping process on a first image to generate a second image, where the content of the first and second images is similar but the respective color spaces of the first and second images are different. The color gamut mapping process may be controlled using a color gamut mapping mode obtained from a bitstream where the color gamut mapping mode belongs to a set comprising at least two preset modes and an explicit parameters mode. If the obtained color gamut mapping mode is the explicit parameters mode and the color gamut mapping process is not enabled for the explicit parameters mode, the color gamut mapping process may be controlled by a substitute color gamut mapping mode determined from additional data.

  • Publication number: 20220405975
Abstract: At least one embodiment relates to the transfer, between two processing units or memories, of a three-channels texture image and at least two image-structured data used for reconstructing the geometry of the point cloud. Such transfer comprises copying the three channels of the three-channels texture image into the three channels of a four-channels image, and storing, in the fourth channel of the four-channels image, a combined information obtained by combining altogether the at least two image-structured data. The four-channel image is then transferred.

  • Publication number: 20220368954
Abstract: Different implementations are described, particularly implementations for processing a medium dynamic range video signal are presented. In a method for processing such a video signal a medium dynamic range video signal and associated metadata are received, wherein the metadata include data representative of a peak luminance value of the medium dynamic range video signal. In addition, data representative of a peak luminance value of a presentation display are received. It is determined whether the peak luminance value of the medium dynamic range video signal is greater or lower than the peak luminance value of the presentation display. A processor is configured based on the determination, wherein the processor has a first mode to reconstruct a high dynamic range video signal based on a received standard dynamic range video signal and associated metadata, and a second mode to optimize a received high dynamic range video signal for the rendering device.

  • Patent number: 11490104
Abstract: Significance flags in advanced video compression systems are coded using contexts adaptive to the last N significance flags coded taken in a scanning order. One embodiment uses the last N significance flags in scanning order as a predictor to determine which of a plurality of sets of significance flag contexts to use for coding subsequent significance flags. A second embodiment uses the last N significance flags in scanning order as a predictor in order to modulate the probability value associated with significance flag contexts that are used to code significance flags for future coding.

Abstract: A device and a method for outputting video content for display on a display. At least one processor displays a first video content on the display, receives a second video content to display, obtains a first luminance value for the first video content, extracts a second luminance value from the second video content, adjusts a luminance of a frame of the second video content based on the first and second luminance values and outputs the frame of the second video content for display on the display. The video content can comprise frames and a luminance value can be equal to an average frame light level for the most recent L frames of the corresponding video content. In case a luminance value is unavailable, a Maximum Frame Average Light Levels of the first video content and the second video content can be used instead.

  • Publication number: 20220256202
Abstract: Methods and apparatus provide mapping functions for video encoding or decoding by replacing a pivot point of a uniformly sampled inverse mapping function by another pivot point not located on an original non-uniformly sampled inverse mapping function. In one embodiment a last pivot point of the inverse mapping function is extended based on a previous slope whose curve is plotted between two previous pivot points or based on the preservation of the slope which is dual to the existing slope of the equivalent section in the forward mapping function. Syntax is provided that assists the mapping and inverse mapping and clipping.

  • Patent number: 11412275
Abstract: A method provides translation of metadata related to enhancement of a video signal according to a first high dynamic range video distribution type into metadata related to enhancement of a video signal according to a second high dynamic range video distribution type. Translation is done between a value of a first metadata set corresponding to a first type of high dynamic range video and a value of a second metadata set corresponding to a second type of high dynamic range video and uses an association that may be stored in a lookup table that is determined according to differences between a test image reconstructed using the metadata of first type and the same image reconstructed using the metadata of second type. A receiver apparatus and a transmitter apparatus comprising the translation method are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11297323
Abstract: Images to be used as reference images in an adaptive resolution coder or decoder undergo resizing to match the resolution of an image being processed. The resizing process is carried out using extended resolution bit lengths to more accurately represent the processed image. The internal bit depth is retained through the resizing process, and kept as a reference image is stored. When a reference image is used in motion compensation processing, the resized reference matches the resolution of a current image being processed and has an expanded bit depth precision to achieve better fidelity.
